I would say its more art than sport especially dancing. Even though they have athleticism to it. They are moving their bodies more creatively, creativity has stronger impact than athleticism. Take ballet for example, a lot of athleticism is needed, a lot training and practice is needed. Yet its an art we couldn't call it sport by any measure. Figure skating has some elements of sportsmanship and is included in Olympics, so it could also be called a sport, however they are judged on creativity not just on athleticism. So creativity has stronger impact therefore I'd say its still more art.
They are artistic expressions, they are using their bodies to express. So I'd say they are Art or more art than sports.
I think that I see them both (Arts + Sports) the same way - Hobbies, pastimes, creative actions that can both be an interest and for the lucky few a career - They both have different sets of criteria and sets of appeal (many can go into the grey area of both) but they are very likely to evoke some emotion in the creator and the audience
It's both. There is a natural beauty in every physique, but an athletic build showcases the basic elements of a body. Dancers and figure skater are athletes because they put in years of work to perform what they do. Its the same as a runner, football player, or a baseball player. They're all competitive but form is key for their case. Each movement is highlighted. Somewhat framed like a portrait. That's why it's also art.
Both. Takes the physical strength of a sport but its as beautiful as art. Then again most sport, when performed at the highest level, can be seen as an art form
Both. They are competitive activities that require some type of training. Not only that, they can easily become expressions of a certain message through the abstract movements and passion. It’s not the same as something like football or basketball. There’s no intention of provoking emotional responses from the audience. Feeling is not a factor in winning the competition.
Both. Saw a documentary about a french black woman who was super athletic, but could never win because she wasn't "artistic" enough. She was phenomenal, but not traditional. Damn shame, because i actually enjoyed watching figure skating when she would do it
Ballet is Athletic Art just like rhythmic gymnastics and figure skating| All these things are under appreciated, especially Ballerinas. Unfortunately the gays ruined ballet.
Figure skating is all about doing some amazing flips spins in different ways that are actually harder then it looks, while still looking really good. So it's an artistically athletic sport
Both, it's obviously a sport because it's physically demanding and there are competitions organized around them. However, I think that almost every sport is an art in the way, there is beauty in the executions of almost any sport.
It's for sure both and sometimes harder then then football or baseball

I think it’s more of an art when forming routines and mastering the art form of it, using creativity, talent, style for the outfits. Both could also send a message, unlike sports where you just play. Dancing isn’t a sport but if anything figure skating could be seen as one, both can also come with practice like anything. The way you move with the music is also artistic, as if you’re painting a story or what you’d like to portray.

I think it’s both. Depending on your approach to it, as well. Figure skating has become more and more of a sport as people try to complete harder tricks that haven’t been done before rather than focusing on composing something unique and different. I’d still consider it a form of art, but it seems to be straying away from that and more into sport territory. Dance still seems to have remained truly an art, but I’d consider it a sport as well since there is a need for athleticism involved.
