A lot of the people who give high numbers are actually bullshitting.
Because most people shit out reps like they just got food poisoning.
High quality rep is hands under shoulders, straight line, no sagging hips. *full range of motion*. Slow down, hold at bottom, slow ascend, hold at top, repeat. Even if you're a seasoned push-uper, a pushup should be quite hard.
I bet I could quite easily do 40-50 reasonable quality reps. I could quite comfortably do 30 of the high quality rep's I just described.
If you can't do pushups, then you ain't gonna do psuedo planche pushups. Those are fucking hard (again, unless you cheat). :) Was doing them yesterday.
With proper form (tucked elbows, neutral hand position, tensed abs/lower back, straight legs, full muscle tension throughout the chest/triceps/forearms), I can do about 8/9 at present, although I used to be able to do way more. Right now I'm training some 'regressions' (incline pushups, knees bent pushups) to build my strength back up, so that I can ultimately progress further with "proper" pushups, and eventually progress towards one-arm pushups.
If perfect form is not a consideration then I can bang out somewhere between 20-30 pushups
I got a good sized muscular chest and arms but I can only do about 30 where my girlfriend can do 50. It dont seem to translate well as I can bench press much more then her.
