Why is car racing considered a sport, when you don't need to be fit for it?

- That's not true and a shallow way of thinking. They have to compete and be successful to even make it to Nascar. The speed they're going at means more force is put on the body due to the acceleration so they have to be fit. Their metabolism actually goes up a lot during the races so it actually plays a part in getting them fit. Also, the pit crew is timed on how fast they can get the cars back on the track during the races. If you get too slow or they find someone faster then you can be replaced. That requires fitness as well.0|00|0Is this still revelant?

- Actually for that kind of driving you do, though it's more of an endurance and psychological event. Nascar isn't a great example, but more intense racing like the 24-hour races and formula 1 are more easily argued.
People consider video games sports now too. I hate the concept, but e-sports is very much a thing now.0|00|0Is this still revelant?

- It requires both phyically and mentally fit person to drive a car that fast.
Not as easy as we see it.
Try driving over 100 mph... well.. don't do it because I tell you to... but imagine...0|10|0Is this still revelant?I have done 110 mph, you sweat when car makes sharp turn.
Don't try it girly... unless you are planning to be train to be a prof.
- You do need to be fit to sit in a car. People who are 350-600 lbs may not be able to fit in a car and let alone comfortablly.0|00|0Is this still revelant?

330- You are wrong to claim that driving a racing car is not physically demanding, i suggest you try go carting some time you will soon realise how challenging it is.
It is a sport because the execution matters.https://www.youtube.com/embed/Gtjelu36QMI0|00|0Sorry wrong link, this is the one about sports:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PKUoqHdL6I
- Your body does actually need to be fit and in shape to be able to handle those kind of g-force and stay focused. On top of that is does take skill to drive at those kinds of speeds with that many cars close to you. One small mistake can lead to a crash and injury if not death.0|00|0
- Same reason chess is also a sport.
ps: don't you know what a dictionary is?
Sport - an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Physical exertion as mental exertion manifests itself physically.
Physical exertion can also be mental exertion because manifests itself physically.0|00|0@Guffrus @Missycloak.. yes it is and yes it does.. one of you is uneducated and the other never tried any kind of competitive driving. Do you even have a license?
- Show All Show Less
https://youtu.be/Hlaj8Md6WMo this is true for all driving, just a little less extreme the slower you go.
@Missycloak "driving does not require physical or mental exhaustion." this makes me 99% sure you never drove a car in your life.
Then why are 99% of truck and bus drivers fat as fuck, at least where I live? Its not a sport. I do drive but its nothing compared to activities I do.
@tHISpLACEiSbONKERZ Chess is not a sport because there is no skill component to the execution of the moves, the result will be exactly the same if you were to tell someone else which move you wanted to play.
Chess is an ortho game, that is to say it is a competition between two or more players using an agreed-upon set of rules with a method of ranking.
There are many skills tested, memory and knowledge of the known best moves for a variety of openings etc, forward planning, observation / awareness of the game state etc, the use of sacrifice and misdirection etc to try to achieve a desired outcome / lead your opponent down the road you want to go down etc. It is extremely difficult and requires great intelligence to do well, but it is not a sport because it does not have an athletic component.
Also i will point out that i am well aware that motor racing is extremely physically demanding and that is a sport as it has an athletic component, you couldnt proxy your instructions to another driver and achieve the same outcome, the execution matters.@Missycloak Please remind me who are bus and truck drivers competing against?
@tHISpLACEiSbONKERZ So, you think that because a bunch of retarded whining faggots like yourself managed to get an olympic commitee to list Chess as a sport that that makes it a sport?
You're wrong.
There is nothing wrong with a competition not being a sport, it doesn't take anything away from it but claiming that an orthogame without an athletic component is a sport is utterly fucking stupid.@Guffrus Duffus, why are you still here? We've established you're a retard, there is no need to prove it any further.
@tHISpLACEiSbONKERZ Chess is a solvable game, it may not have been solved yet but one day it will be and at that point there will be nothing to differentiate one player from another.
To say that chess is a sport is like saying that tic tack toe is a sport, which it clearly isn't.
Execution has to matter.
Its sad that you aren't able to grasp that concept and its even more sad that official bodies have allowed themselves to be pressured into catagorising something which is obviously not a sport as a sport, thats a mistake and it is only a matter of time until that desicison is demonstrated to be very stupid.
- Tell this to the driver and the pit stop crew.
They are all fit as fuck, your body can't withstand the forces of acceleration if you are not fit. Not counting any extra weight will slow you down and may cost you the win. Same for the crew, changing a tire within seconds is not possible if you got a beer belly.0|10|0 - It takes a lot of skill, plus it's incredibly dangerous.
And also, you do need to be in good shape. Because when you're going that fast there's a lot of strain on your body. You need to be in good shape otherwise you can actually get hurt from the stress of your body moving at such high speeds.0|10|0 - You do need to be somewhat fit to drive a stick-shift for 500 miles in 90+ degree weather with no air conditioning. Not to mention not every NASCAR track is left-turn only, there are road courses too, and those really take a lot out of you.0|00|0
- Well try it some time. You have to be in tip top shape to sit in thst car being as hot as it is going over150 at least for 2 to hrs try it for 50 laps you will change your mind0|00|0
- As professional driver you need to be fit. Even in lame cars like NASCAR there are 4-5g in curves and this over 3-4 hours. Someone who isn't physically and mentally fit won't handle that.0|00|0
- I hate it but actually you need to be fit to ride such cars and an expert.0|00|0
- Do you think that you could walk away from an auto collision at 150 mph or above?
If the car absorbs all of the forces, why do people die in plane crashes. The plane absorbs the crash?0|00|0 - Actually you need to be moderately fit to be able to endure that level of focus and maintain being able to handle that much force in Nascar. You need endurance.0|00|0
@Missycloak
Your forgetting about the g-force applied when doing high speed cornering, granted not as much as a fighter pilot but it's more than averageGo on a really spirited drive in the wilderness that has a lot of turns, lets see how long you'll last til you feel exhausted.
- Damned good question! I have occasionally wondered the same thing.1|00|0
- You don't think you need to be in shape to endure tight turns at 200 mph? Do you not understand how G forces work?0|10|0
They'd LOVE you at Baikonur. Think of the rubles you'll save when you don't need to protect your cosmonauts from g-forces, since the capsule will absorb all the forces!
- Sitting for hours at a time in intense concentration requires the same fitness and conditioning as flying an f14 fighter jet.0|00|0
Well we gotta establish that flying a f14 fighter jet requires that.
Sport= running, swimming, cycling, skating, archery, soccer, football, hockey, baseball etc.
- F1 or my favourite rally driving challenge in other ways and you don't see many fat drivers0|00|0
- If you don't need to be fit, where are the all of the fat race car drivers? I've never seen one.0|00|0
- At least car racing takes an effort. On the other hand, chess and gaming don't, but still being called "sporta"0|00|0
- because it requires skill, its called motorsports, you think its easy to keep good control of a car at high speeds?0|20|0
- It takes a lot of skill to drive that fast lol I freak out going above 60mph0|20|0
- Because it takes skill to win races. You are still holding the steering wheel so strong arm muscles could help you turn it faster lol0|00|0
- It's a competition and driving competitively requires a great deal of skill and mental fortitude. Same reason that people consider Chess a sport.0|10|0
- Its about stamina or endurance as well as mental stamina.0|10|0
- You do need to be fit for it, those seats are tiny and the force on the wheel is pretty demanding0|10|0
- It takes lotta good motor skills to drive a car that fast try it sometime0|10|0
- Try it out and you'll see it's physically exhausting.
You're wrong0|10|0 - Anonymous12 dYou have to be super fit to drive a race car.0|00|0
- At the elite levels? Absolutely you need to be fit0|10|0
