Honestly, as someone who lived a fair amount of time pre-social media... that shit is DESTRUCTIVE. It’s cool to be able to keep in contact with people, but all I hear about is people fighting and falling out over Facebook, teenagers and young adults are either obsessed with creating this online image of how sweet your life is and how good you look or they’re depressed because they aren’t creating this image, or no one is paying attention to it. That alone is just a fucking BANANAS phenomenon. I was that age too, the creation of an image, sometimes exaggerated or fabricated altogether, has always been a thing, but now we can keep score for all to see. When I was a kid, there weren’t all these suicides and school shootings and shit... I’m not saying it’s the only reason, but SOMETHING is making today’s kids either less emotionally resilient or the sources of stress have been EXTREMELY amplified. A lot of this stuff happens in part due to online bullying... made possible by social media. And I’ve heard of “Facebook Depression”, which since I’ve heard that has probably transitioned to “InstaGram Depression.” I don’t know, people just get so caught up in that stuff and I feel like it has such a negative emotional impact.Video games, we always had those kids that never came outside because they were playing Zelda or Final Fantasy. A lot of those kids grew up to be fairly successful or at least self-sufficient. It can definitely have its negative impacts if you get carried away, but I just don’t feel like anyone is going to off themselves over playing too many video games.
Social media hand's down. Often times the only benefit of social media is that it teaches how to speak well in order to get people to listen to your ideas with which no one agrees... or to echo the thoughts of all the people in your feed who do listen to you because they already agree with you about everything. Basically... it's either a place you go to argue, get reassurance that your opinions are correct, or look at memes all day. Unfortunately looking at memes all day is the most productive option between those three.Video games can teach hand-eye coordination, strategy, analytical and critical thinking skills, team-work, and can inspire creativity in kids and adults alike with colorful worlds, characters, and creatures, as well as cause people to think and consider topics about which they'd usually never think. This is not to say every game does all of these things but these are all things that may be learned very effectively through video games. Also... as someone who has been to a gun range I can attest that video game violence and real life shooting of a gun are in no way compatible or comparable. People who argue that video game violence cause people to be violent don't seem to understand that video games actually prevent violence by creating a way to vent steam and stress that is inherently non-violent. Additionally, while I agree that video games may cause desensitization to violence, I don't think it in any way encourages or causes violent actions. (Even if some criminals use them as a scpae goat to argue that a violent crime wasn't their own fault).
Social media. It just brings out the worst in people. Makes people brag about themselves even if it’s not true. It just eats them whole. A lot make Likes and hearts a big deal and that’s how people become shallow. They also forget to be appreciative grateful about life and instead, they just drown themselves into likes and number of followers. It devours people and distorts what is genuine from not. What’s sad is it consumes people’s lives without them knowing. Just because it looks nice in pictures does not mean it is great in reality. But they don’t care as long as people gives likes and think that they’re doing far more better and just adds pressure to some equal or surpass that starbucks drink or ring on the hand picturesIt creates an illusion whether you don’t know what is real from not.
Worse in which sense? As an addiction, they are both about the same. As a form of socializing, social media probably works better. As a way to have fun, video games would win... When looking for a partner? Depends what you're into yourself. So what exactly are you talking about?
Social media is way more addictive
@No_Archons I doubt it ^^
@Hurlyburly No_Archons is actually correct. People who play video games and have social media tend to look more at their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and so on more out of muscle memory. Gamers tend to play their game for as long as they can at home but then turn it off because its late and they have work or something. While social media you can check it any time while you work, game, get ready for bed, when you wake up, go to the bathroom, and so on. I'm not saying gamers wouldn't do the same if they could. I'm saying due to the more accessiblity of social media it is more addictive then video game. In my opinion that is.
@Kota-the-Unhearted video game addiction doesn't only include the time you're actually playing. When you're addicted, its everything whats on your mind no matter what you're doing. People who are able to just turn off the game and focus on other things aren't addicted.
Playing video games is no different than watching a tv show or a movie on netflix.
Social Media ♥️🥰
I've found social media has a degree of addictiveness--at least for me--which is absent in video games. I find it much easier to put video games down than social media. Social media is sorta like methadone social interaction. It's pretty empty and just a way to delay withdrawal from real social interaction. Seems to me. Video games, however, at least they give you a beautiful alternate world to explore. And a break from real life and a fantasy with power. While also working your brain out a bit. I think video games are much better. Hmm. Why am I on here instead of playing a video game with my free time? o. o Good point
It depends.Like in terms of addictiveness, then it really could be either.I'd say social media though, because it's really big nowadays and I think it can give people a false sense of reality and make people feel bad about themselves e. g. if I was Instagram famous and I always posted pictures and videos of myself on luxury holidays, driving luxury cars and living the high life, then people would probably think my life is amazing, when I may well have issues that others don't know about. It can make people feel like their own lives suck, which can't be good for one's mental health. Another thing is, you can basically choose what you post and when viewing, you're basically looking at someone's life through a keyhole and aren't seeing everything that's going on, unless they post like every single detail.
Worse in what aspect? If you mean based on the negative affect it can have when it comes to a social life, probably social media. Not only does it give a rather false view if reality regarding people, but it isn't as social as it seems. Video games actually have far more positives than negatives. You can learn from video games, as there are video games that are educational. You can improve upon a skill, you can actively interact with other people and friends. You can actually have fun with video games. Other than attempting to keep people in contact and spreading the rep people have or simply getting the word out that people are doing something, social media doesn't have much going for it in comparison. As a result, it's worse, generally speaking.
I think what's worse than both of these is the apathy of today's world. Put a social media device or a controller in someone's hands and there is a complete breakdown of thinking/communication, etc. It's disrespectful and rude when you're trying to have any kind of interaction with someone and they are not giving you 100 percent of their attention because they're on their phone. Or you try, your very best, to rip a kid from their video game, and it's akin to abuse in their mind. The ability to just zone out the world and/or not care about common courtesy or ethical behavior is, for me, far more disconcerting.
I would say an addiction to either is not a good thing. The difference here is that social media may have a more addictive push. Simply because people have to see what their friends are doing or post and comment on everything and anything. Its like trying to make yourself be whatever people want you to be so that you gain more friends or followers. Video games can be bad as well if all you think about is the game. Its a tough one but i feel social media often changes people and most of the time not for the better.
Video games are fun and entertainment and there are many games which help you in better eye and hand co-ordination, increase your memory power and puzzle solving skills, they also help them in your sport or business career. The simulators are a fun way to learn things. Where social media is more about bullshit garbage then being connected.
Social media by far! The reason why I say social media is because when it comes to video games I want to get away from reality and play a superhero game like Spider-Man or Batman or playing sports-related games such as NBA 2K (even real-life sports) is something I use as a get away from the negativity of the news that I read on social media (i. e: political matters). Which is why I don't want to play video games like Mortal Kombat of a dude getting decapitated, I see enough graphic violence on television and social media of constant wars and protests around the world.
Video games stop rapeVideo games help you learn Video game is a good go to if your feeling downVideo games keep you out of trouble. Video games has a growing industry and you can now get paid for streaming. Video games does little to the mind. Look at all the game serial killers and school shooters play and ask yourself are those games violent in anyway.Video game gives you insight. Video games are better than a book and movie combine. Social media cause ego inflation, depression, suicide, phobias that were never there, porn use, racism/prejudice, fighting , anxiety , fear , anger, unwanted thoughts/intrusive thoughts, panic attacks. If people knew how to use social media the right way. To connect with people, gain insight , a better understanding with life.
I'm a gamer and I like video games, but I don't get what you mean by "video games stop rape"
Look it up
Social Media. It brings you closer to the people far away from you and brings you further away from the people closest to you. Video game should bring you closer to both. Video Games are better for socialization than even social media is with chatting during video games. And when you're playing with a friend you're sharing an experience together which will just make the two of you closer
Social media is more toxic - that's the place which can lead to bullying and trolls. Games just involve people fooling around! Please answer mine?Guys, minimal make up close up, which face is prettier? Or less ugly however you see it? ↗
Social media is far, far, far worse.Video games can be art. Video games can be social experiences. Video games can tell stories. Video games can make you smarter.Social media makes people depressed. Social media incentivises narcissism. Social media facilitates arguments.
As both have trolls toxicity and individuals that have developed unhealthy behaviors around these things. Social media creates an environment for the spread if misinformation and creation of echo chambers.
Video games help improve hand/eye coordination, can lessen ignorance, increase knowledge, and sometimes be a helpful workout for your brain. Social media is a time waster. Big difference.
Video gamesThey simply have zero productiveness to it. Unless you are youtuber or pro gamer. Its simpy a total waste of time. Which is fine thoughHowever while social media can be quit toxic. Its also a form of marketing yourself with real tangible results. Many people have made a fortune because of it
Social media all the way. But man if you want play online games with people that have a headset, omfg they are toxic people out there. As long as they hide behind their screens, and act like the biggest a-holes.
Video games can improve your coordination, and usually requires critical thinking to play effectively (sometimes quick thinking as well). The one benefit from social media is keeping some form of connection with old friends
Social media is 90%worst thing ever it makes everyone so anti-social plus they are so worried about how to keep their followers they will nearly do anything.. And don't forget that (like) button omg please just cancel the whole thing..
Video games! I’m a member of multiple social media, but the only video games I cared about growing up were the Crash Bandicoot & FIFA franchises 🎮⚽️
Social media.Video games can improve your coordination, reflexes, speed, strategy skills, etc. It's not a bad thing at all in moderation.
Social media is way worse. At least video games can keep your mind sharp and give you a sense of accomplishment. Social media only makes you get in fights and get jealous of what others have.
Since I dont have much if any social media Hardcore video gamer player... I say social media
Video games feature mostly benefits.Social media feature mostly problems.Which is worse? Fun or cancer?
Though both can be a job for some people. I am biased though I play video games and fix computers for a living so what do I know.
Social media - there are too many fakes in this World, setting unrealistic expectations.Video games are good, as it advances concentration and problem-solving skills.
Social media. I can't stand it. I use video games to get away from the constant flood of social media crap I hear about all day.
Social media can actively manipulate people and warp their entire world view when not used responsibly. Video Games are not really influential at all in that degree. So social media is both better and worse depending on how its used.
Video games are just games. The social media attached to it is what makes them toxic.
Videogames are entertainment. Social media is social engineering on a global scale.
Duh!!! Social media... A game does nothing more than put me into cantosis. ... Or wanting to fuck a milf. anyways... You want another #gamergate? Just leave us alone if you're not trying to fuck!
@Uru_DS I meant a word that means you're in a catatonic state... but for some reason spell check won't help me figure out how to spell it right. ... even still because I just tried. Ketosis is all it gives me... as if I'm on a high protein no carb diet. ... But fuck me right?
I don't see whats so bad about video games to begin with.
Social media wants to destroy gaming by shaming us gamer while in the other hand all what we want to do is play games with our friends.
Video games because they don't accomplish any real life stuff.
You mean which is better? I can't choose, I love them both xD
I think video games are better. There is more neurological activity in them
Social media it makes you subconsciously compare yourself to other people
Sounds like someone’s pissed about the new gaming disorder bs. Don’t worry I am too.
Seems to be more criminal activity associated with social media.
Social media is reality and video games are the escape from reality
Video games aren't even bad to begin with.Except Fortnite and F76. Fucking cancer.
Social media can destroy your mood but hey, what do the video games do?
Video games. It’s easier to make money on social media.
Social Media cause lot of people can hide be the screen in video games can to but can also play on your own.
Which is worse for what
Social media. Videos games are actually good for you.
Social medias but they're still more useful than video games.
Social medias are more pointless if you use it for posting random stuff but it has great use like communicating and promoting while video games have uses such as entertainment and not as pointless as social media but doesn't really benefit you that much.
Definitely social media.
Facebook's definitely more hassle than its worth.
Social media because you get in fights
Social media for sure
Neither of them is worse!
TV is so much worse!
We can do videogames together
Social media piss and shit on people.
Social media are full of propaganda!
Social fuckin media
Video games bring happiness no way
Social media by far
