To what extent does the number of likes you get on social media define you?

I believe that the way society has used social media as a means of social hierarchy is toxic. Both to each individual as well as society itself. If a person uses social media as a way to determine their attractiveness by the number of views or likes, it can a) create a false personality upon the individual, b) if this person doesn’t get that many views or likes even though they have a large following, they may think that they are ugly or hated by everyone, this can lead to self consciousness, stress, hate, or even depression. If a person uses their social media platform as a way to sell their products and they receive little profit they may think that the product was stupid or that it isn’t good quality. This can instil false insecurities, yes it is much more affordable and may be free. But if it is a product that is homemade and it doesn’t sell, that would hurt to know that lots of people can see your products yet you have no one buys it.

So to answer the question, I believe that a person should not be defined by the number of likes on social media, I believe that it is a way to create a false sense of social status or fame. Even though in the long run no one but the individual who posts cares about you or the number of likes you have on your picture of your dog. Because who else has a photo of their dog on social media.

I have a Facebook to keep track of some family members, Army friends, and some hobby groups and that's it.

Beyond that, I kind of hate how social media gets used and how important it has become to so many people.

I get upto 800 likes and I don't think there's any science behind it. I cut a guy off because he cared too much about his likes (as his likes were always less than mine). He would fight with me every time after uploading a pic. I can't stand people who care so much about likes or dislikes. I like photography (though I lack the proper equipments) and that's the only reason why I will upload pics (hopefully with a better camera/photographer).
Deleting social media is a really good thing to do for mental health whether you get more or less likes. If someone doesn't want to delete then it's always good to take a break instead of uploading pics frequently. I make sure I don't upload for several months as the number of likes don't define me.
Living a low profile life has it's own benefits that the people with more likes don't have. It feels like your every move is being watched.

Thank God I don't have this problem as I don't have social media.
Obviously the amount of likes becomes quite competitive and it definitely gives that girl a boost of self esteem and confidence
