Why Windows and Apple Skipped 9?

At the time, the rumor was that Microsoft skipped 9 so programs didn't risk confusing the OS for Windows 95 or 98. I don't recall hearing anything official about it from Microsoft, though. I have no idea why Apple would do the same.

Windows skipped it so it there won't beany confusion between Windows 9 and Windows 95 and 98.

Android numbered their versions from 1 to 9, sofar no confusion there, maybe they need to change things up when hitting v.10
