Should I stick with windows 10 or get a macbook?

Question

right now i have a Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576 its the laptop in the last pic i was thinking about selling it & buying a older macbook 2012 off of ebay or amazing what do you guys & girls think?

Unless you have a specific need to run older Mac software, that would be a foolish choice. While MacBooks of that age have a couple of advantages compared to new ones (separate user-replaceable storage, for example), it's still 8-year-old hardware, meaning it can be expected to fail at any time, has older, outdated connections, and is stuck on an old version of MacOS and is no longer receiving security updates.

While it's true that a MacBook was physically built better than lower-end Windows laptops, it's also true that MacBooks were significantly more expensive, and not a reasonable comparison. There are higher-end Windows laptops that are built as well, and are better equipped for less money, though still much higher priced than a lower-end laptop. The point being: MacBooks aren't anything particularly special, and are overpriced for what you get. Their ONLY major advantage is that they can run Mac apps, so if you have a specific need for a Mac app, or if you're doing to develop apps for Mac or iOS, then you need one. Otherwise, you are better off (better hardware for the dollar - often significantly better) with a Windows machine. Windows 10 is fully supported and up-to-date and can run anything you'd want to throw at it.

In the end its your preference that decide. Personally I pick a PC any day over a mac. Better hardware for the money. Which OS you run on it depends on what your going to use it for. The only reason to have a mac is if you do IOS or mac development. Otherwise they are just a money sink. If you going to use it as a gaming computer latest windows is your best choice, basically what 3rd party software you want to run decide OS. Because there is rarely anything in the OS a regular user care about. You can usually do the same thing with all of them.

The A1278 is a GREAT MBP, but I would wait. With the M1 Macs out at a much lower price point than anticipated, the prices of older Macs should crater rather quickly. Unless you get a great deal (under $300) and it has a large SSD (at least 500 GB) and at least 8GB of RAM I would stick with the Acer for now.

Windows 10 has a bunch of bullshit "features" that stop you from enjoying your own computer, like a mandatory password to login, a mandatory password to use ANY other passwords on it, like your browser's Password Manager (yes, you need permission from your own computer to save passwords on a browser), it has that super-shitty Edge browser integrated into Windows 10 itself, as well as the even shittier Bing for searches. It has forced automatic updates that you have to do research online to figure out how to cut off or block, so they don't shut down your computer at 5am, and so on... It's basically like you have no control over your own computer with Windows 10 because of how much restrictive bullshit they put in 10. I avoided it for years, but with sister's fucking cat knocked over water on my desk in 2019, it fried my Dell Windows 8 tower and I had no choice but to get a new laptop with Windows 10 in it, after I was unable to fix the motherboard of the old machine.

I'd say avoid Windows 10 at all costs, unless you don't like having freedom to use your own damn computer, however you want. Even work computers in the office don't restrict you as badly as Windows 10.
