- Italians hate all foreigners and they hate Americans with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. The people are extremely arrogant and unwelcoming, to the point of charging Americans quadruple what the locals pay. Only the French are more hateful to Americans.
Japanese are polite and gracious to tourists, but they really don't want you there except for a very brief visit. They see you as a burden and an imposition, at best.
Australians are cool and friendly and like tourists, and they especially like Americans.
If you really want to visit a country in Europe that DOESN'T despise Americans, consider Hungary. The cities are amazingly clean and modern, people are very friendly and helpful, a little bit of money goes a long way, and they have some really cool castles and Cathedrals, and the locals will tell you all kinds of cool places to go and things to do.0|11|0Is this still revelant?Yes, Rome and Naples. I found the locals to be very rude and unwelcoming.
And I have no idea what Historical reason they could have to hate Americans, or if they just despise our culture, or if they just hate any and all foreigners.- Show All Show Less
No, I felt they were hostile towards me, including by spitting on the ground in front of where I was walking, cursing me, and making rude hand gestures. I also noticed that many places blatantly attempted to price gouge for food, and when I pointed out that the menu price was much lower, they would smirk or shrug and walk away. People were as rude as they dared to be, the older folks were more daring in that respect. I got tired of being there after the first day, spent ten days there in total, and was grateful to be leaving.
I thought if they hated outsiders that much, fine, but they should have stopped me at the border if that was the case, instead of allowing me to come in and spend money just to be disrespected. I feel that's chickenshit. Their economy depends on tourism, but they seem extremely ungrateful for all of that.Wow that's really sad. I certainly am going to reconsider going there. Do you think it would depend on what city you go to? Was the males just mean to you or the females as well?
This was in 2004, so maybe it's different now, and maybe it depends on the city, I couldn't tell you. As for the gender, I would say everyone would pointedly ignore you and look annoyed and disgusted by your presence, it was mostly males but also older females who would go out of their way to make you feel unwelcome. The older people were much more brazen about it, regardless of gender.
Like I said, if you hate foreigners, fine, but don't let them in in the first place. I thought they were dickheads, to be honest.I believe you. I am sorry about your experience. I heard France was bad just like you said. My brother went to France and said how rude they were.
@bananaman177 Germans, Swiss, Swedes, and Dutch, people love Americans more than Eastern Europe Poland, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic, felt the most unwelcoming and cold towards Americans based on my long travels to Europe.

- Please come to Japan. You will not be disappointed I can guarantee that here right now0|10|0Is this still revelant?

- I'd hold off on any travel plans in light of the pandemic. You have no idea what percentage of people will be vaccinated or what Covid rates will be in any of the places you're proposing to visit.
Right now, the infection rates are astronomical and fewer than 5 percent of people have even STARTED to be vaccinated.
It will probably take until next FALL before most people will have gotten their two doses and with travel you have no idea who will be vaccinated or who won't be.
Hold off. Summer will not be the best time.2|10|0Is this still revelant?I mean yeah probably but I've already gotten COVID and if most people including me get their vaccine I'd assume I would be mostly safe. I certainly am not waiting another damn year lol. Life is too short so really fuck it lol.
Having had covid does not give you bonafide immunity. People have had it more than once. Also, there is no telling about lung and organ damage. You don't want to get it again.
There is no telling how many people will get the vaccine. Herd immunity requires 80 percent of people having immunization. So far, only 60 percent of people are even SAYING they want to GET the vaccine.
You are YOUNG. You have many years to travel. You life is NOT short at this time. It stretches in front of you. Go there in the FALL after you know what the infection rates are and the vaccine rates are.
Isn't your good health worth it?Yes you are right. As far as my health its already pretty much fucked up anyways. I have like 4 different auto-immune diseases. Also I know it doesn't make me immune to it and that I can get it again. Yeah I guess waiting by fall wouldn't hurt however if it doesn't progress by then we could be having this discussion for who knows how many more years. It's like that old adage" later never comes."

Thankfully when I got it I had very mild symptoms and didn't have any breathing problems. Just loss of taste, feverish and burned nose for a few days. That's it.
I doubt there will be NO progress. But I'm thinking getting this thing under control is going to take time. It's unfortunate. We older people are in worse shape than you kids. We could be facing death. That's a dark piece of shit.
But if your health isn't good, and you think you need to plan to go somewhere for your MENTAL health. too, I see your point. Plan carefully, then, and choose the safest place to go: where covid rates are the low and hospital access is the good. Also consider how long you're going to be on a plane with others who MIGHT BE SICK. According to where you live, Australia is a 20 hour flight. Avoid that. Pick somewhere that takes a few hours on a plane. Or DRIVE there. I'm in US. There are loads of places: cabins in state and national parks that are accessible and you're in beautiful, outdoor surroundings. Think of safe AND enjoyable. You can do it! Good luck.Mental health? Auto-immune diseases have to do with your white blood cells usually acting in a certain way attacking certain things in your body. It has nothing to do with mental health. Maybe vicariously because if you have say Lupus that could give you lots of stress and lead to say depression. I live in America but put Iraq because that's where I was born. GAG bio says country and that's it. Not where are you from or currently living like how say facebook does. Yeah America has lots of nice places, but I am kind of of sick of it. I just wanna travel to a different country.
I know precisely what auto immune diseaes are. My friend had lupus. I'm saying you need to go on a vacation for your mental health because your body has caused you so many issues. You NEED the vacation.. That's what i mean.
- Are you sure you want to travel with a pandemic going on? If you do, if you don't care I would say to Australia.1|10|0Is this still revelant?
Well I would hope by June or July it all blows over.
That would be great, but I'm not so sure about that. It's getting worse.
Yeah but if enough people take the vaccines it should be okay.
- Show All Show Less
It's not that simple, there are new strains. Lots of people don't want to take the vaccines and it's also a long process.
Yeah that's the problem and lots of people don't even wear the masks. Some don't even think the virus exists they just say fake news and its a flu. I have a older stupid neighbor like that. We learned we can't depend on people especially stupid American voters lol. So yes a vaccine is our best hope.
Yes, that's exactly my point. I know people who think like that. In fact, I live with someone who believes in that nonsense. That's why I think it won't end anytime soon. Also, we need to have at least 70% of the world's population vaccinated. If it that ever happens it will take ages to get there. But I agree, the vaccine is a big hope.
Yep plus I've already gotten the virus before which I know I can still get it again. That's also my point of view. Like we don't know how many more years this will last and I am not going to spend my golden years just waiting. I am still going to enjoy myself. I am not an idiot like other people when the vaccine comes out I will take it and still even where the masks.
I'm sorry to hear that you got sick. That's true, we don't know how long immunity lasts and some people got it again. I get your idea, but I still think it's dangerous to travel under these circumstances. That's smart of you and it's also what I'm going to do.
Yeah I will travel with caution. Italy had pretty big cases so maybe I will hold that off for another year.
And thank you for your gratitude.
Yes, you should be cautious. Yes, going to Italy wouldn't be a good idea. Australia sounds like a better option. You're welcome.

1019- I'd pick Italy anytime over Australia, because of it's proximity, history, art and food/wine. In summer 2020, when there was a brief moment Europe was open for travel, I went to the north of Italy (Milan, Brescia, Verona, Padova, Venice, Ferrara, Ravenna, Bologna, Parma and hiked part of the E7). I found it absolutely amazing as it wasn't as swarmed with tourists as it usually is.
However I was on my own and tried to blend in/be unnoticable and make an effort to speak some Italian and honor the (un) written rules as much as I can. And even though there was political tension between Holland and Italy atm (frugal 4), I've had almost every day heartwarming and friendly conversations with locals which I very much cherish.
It's unfortunate that certain nationalities (some more than others) have the reputation to not respect/adapt to local traditions, whether it's on purpose or not. I do believe however that if you treat people how you want to be treated, you'll have a wonderful time almost everywhere in the world (except warzones maybe) :)0|00|0 - Hmmm 🤔. You should look into countries where leaders are not mandating masks.0|10|0

- Australia, I love their accents and I like the aggressive women from there
that will put me in my place LMAO0|10|0Really? hahah, I thought the women there are generally known to be nice? One of my IT jobs I had I used to work at we had Australian customers calling at nights and they all seemed really nice to me. However I am guessing that might be different than in real life since they were such a small population and category.
- None.
Stay the fuck home until at least Autumn and if you're Covid clear. No one is going to be happy to see another overweight American Covid sack bring more issues to their shores.0|10|0 - Australia fo sho because Japan is prettier in the fall and then Italy yes it’s pretty but I don't know. Australia is quite exotic lol and if u like nature too it’s good place to go.0|10|0
- Well Australian is far and more expensive airfare, Japan is expensive too but Italy is nice and good food so it depends what you can afford0|10|0
I have a lot of money saves. So even if its costs up to $3,000 I'd be okay with that.

- I picked Australia because it's probably the safest place to go relative to the virus. If the virus isn't a concern, try Southern Italy - Capri, Naples, Amalfi Coast.0|10|0
Or- SPAIN! The southern coast (Costa Del Sol) is one big party in the summer. Stay in Malaga or Torremolinos.
The one other guy told me , Naples, Italy had very rude people in there though. Are they rude to foreginers?
Yeah actually, Naples is not safe and I should not have said that. I'm sorry I didn't actually mean to but apparently I did. Stay away from Naples on the other hand the Amalfi Coast and Capri are both great places that I recommend to you. Also the south coast of Spain the costa Del Sol is one of the best places in the world during the summer time

- If you like temples and anime, go to Japan.
If you like water and boats, go to Italy.
If you like (exotic) animals, surfing and opera's, go to Australia.
Personally, I would go to Japan first.1|10|0 - Will the lockdown of those countries be lifting by then?
I know Australia is a no go zone since my colleague is stranded here and can’t get home.0|10|0 - Guess it depends on the time of year
Judging by the comments
I didn't know this
