Inside The Mind Of A Black American

I watched the murders of 2 men in less than 48 hours by the hands of those that are sworn to serve and protect us. I sat in a state of shock, then anger, disgust, confusion, and finally sadness. I cried tear after tear. Not just for the lives of these two men and the effect that it will have on their families. Not just for the injustice that continues to happen over and over again. I cried also because for the life of me I cannot understand why there is so much hatred in this world surrounding the color of one's skin when we literally had no say in it.

After crying, the sadness turned back into anger. Anger and fear. Fear for my father. For my uncles. Cousins. Nephews. Godsons. Friends. For the black men all over this country. And the women too (Sandra Bland). I'm angry that I'm scared. That I have this fear. That it stretches all the way to my unborn children. No one should have to live this way. And yet, I am just one of many that feels like this.

For those of you that like to throw black on black crime around, WE ARE AWARE. We have eyes that can see, and we are aware that black on black crime is an issue. But black on black crime does not give the green light for police to abuse their powers. These officers aren't shooting warning shots. They are shooting to kill. Six bullets to the chest of a man that was pinned down on the ground. Four bullets to the chest of a man that was strapped into a seatbelt. With a child in the backseat.

Stop resisting and struggling and just comply

and you won't get shot.

Just one of the many comments I see constantly. My question is: what happens when you comply and you die anyway? Because that's what happened to the man that was still strapped in a seatbelt when he was killed. He was reaching for his license and registration LIKE HE WAS ASKED. He didn't resist. He didn't struggle. And yet, he's still dead.

We are living in very dark times. There's so much evil, negativity, and division in the world. Racism is still very much alive and if you can't see that then I'm going to need for you to open up your eyes. Take the blinders off. Realize that there is a problem. Acknowledging that black people are in fact being mistreated does not make you a bad person. It doesn't mean that you have internalized hatred for yourself. It means that you are aware of what's happening around you. Staying quiet during these times speaks volumes.

#Blacklivesmatter and if you can't understand that without feeling the need to shout the all lives matter, you are apart of the problem. If you can't acknowledge that without bringing up black on black crime, then you are apart of the problem. It is IMPOSSIBLE for all lives to matter when we are being shown just how much black ones don't. Wake up and realize that something doesn't smell right.
