Students at an Ole Miss "leadership retreat" spotted a banana peel in a tree and basically lost their shit. They were in tears, feared that "racists were coming for them", and were provided a "safe space" by their group leaders in order to recover from the traumatic event and their 3 day leadership event was cut short due to the horrific banana peel incident. Yeah this is real news people. Wtf? Oh yeah, and it turns out later that it was a member of their own group that threw the peel in the tree because he couldn't find a garbage can. So it wasn't the evil racists coming to get them after all.
When is enough enough? Who are the real racists when these people find racism in a freaking banana peel? What kind of "leaders" are we raising when they have a panic attack over a banana peel in a tree? Even if it had been placed on purpose by some racist piece of crap, how hard is it to handle the situation and... throw it away and move on with your life? The peel can't hurt you. Why are we letting people act as if their world is ending over the smallest things? Why do we need safe spaces to recover from the trauma of seeing a damn banana peel? Why do we think it's okay to validate this?
