Supermarket bans plastic bag to help environment, charges for reusable tote bags: Green or greedy, your thoughts?

Australia's largest supermarket Woolworths has banned the use of plastic grocery bags for its customers in order to help the environment

"With the removal of single-use plastic bags at our checkouts you'll need to remember to bring in your own reusable green bags when you shop with us. Keeping a few in the boot of your car, a couple by the front door or writing them at the top of your shopping list will help make sure you’ve always got one with you when you shop.

We understand it’s a big change, and we know that remembering your reusable bags every time you shop, isn’t easy.

Instead you either bring your own bags with you or you purchase the available tote bags at checkout.

Instead, they offered their own tote bags which range from 15c-$2.50

Australian consumers were outraged and called bullshit on the environmentalism

"Please don’t claim that not supplying plastic bags is a move toward being environmentally friendly when every vegetable is unnecessarily wrapped in plastic"

"Can you please explain why your plastic bags have been replaced with more plastic bags? Don’t tell me it’s better because they’re reusable because we all know not everyone will reuse them and they will all end up in landfill and our waterways eventually! This is a disgrace"
