And we're back ladies and gentlemen with more bullshit from my home the Buckeye State: Ohio.
Vetoed by Kasich in 2016, Ohio lawmakers have now brought it back to the table. Basically, the Heartbeat Bill bans abortions after six weeks if it gets signed by the Governor. Any woman or doctor participating in an abortion after that would be eligible for prison and the death penalty.
There has been one change in the Heartbeat Bill, however. It used to exclude instances of rape and incest. It no longer does. This means if a man rapes a woman, then she must carry the child full term because it's not the child's fault. If a woman participates in incest (which is usually a result of rape or molestation) she must still carry the child full term because, again, it's not the child's fault, despite the defects that come incest..
This also criminalizes women who have 'suspicious' miscarriages. They, too, are subject to prison and the death penalty. The only exemption is if an abortion is required due to a medical emergency. Mental health, in any sense (schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bi-polar disorder, etc.), do not qualify for exemption.
Kasich vowed to veto it again, but he's leaving office and DeWine, who promised to sign it, will be in office January 4th. So, basically, this bill is going to pass. Kasich originally changed it to a much more reasonable 20 weeks. DeWine believes it should stay six, even though women most likely wouldn't know about their pregnancy until six weeks as it's rare to discover it any earlier, even with a physicians help.
Thoughts? Here's more on that bill here.
