and to put those figures into even more perspective, when i was born there were 3.5 billion people on the planet... its more than doubled in just over 50 years
@wankiam Exactly. In any case, it is not there is not reason to be sensible and prudent, but fits of hysteria neither help matters nor change anything.As Kipling wrote, "If you can keep your head about you when others are losing their's, then you will be a man, my son." It would be nice if the culture could keep that sense of a stiff upper lip, sobriety and perspective. Well, I guess hair pulling hysteria is more fun and nets more headlines.
right at the start of this it was said that the actual virus wouldn't prove to be a bigger issue than the reaction to it and since then i think we have already seen that... funny thing is you and i have seen it all before, several times and yet we are here to tell the tale
@wankiam Could not agree more. How many times have you and I lived through the end times? As one wag put it, "Don't plan for the end of the world - it will only happen once." Cheers!
was it einstien who said something about doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result was the very definition of insanity?
@wankiam Yup!! Sure was.
maybe growing up with better education and having gone through the aids epidemic we are just jaded lol
@wankiam Well, certainly that is part of it. However, in the age of social media, people have more information and less of a sense of history and context. It encourages people in the worst habits of living in their own heads. Throw in the need to grab eyeballs with blaring headlines and - Presto!! - panic as a routine of daily life.
been nice if the internets creator realized his dream of it being used that way... it was even refered to as the information highway at one time but sadly its all about opinion and misinformation today... people need to read books again but here in the uk the government siezed on that and started closing public libraries along with lessening education budgets
@wankiam By the way, speaking of information highway, just have to add. If one more television program gets interrupted by a press conference held by an elected/government official - President, Vice-President, HHS Secretary, Governor, Mayor, dog catcher - to tell me to wash my hands, I will kick in the television set and/or smash the i-phone.We do not need a "stop the presses" headlines to tell us to wash our hands!!Good grief!!!
lol yeah... its not quite that bad here yet with breaks in normal tv schedules but its on every news show repeatedly
@wankiam Well, here it seems that every time an elected official makes an appearance they stop everything. Then the same thing happens - "We are on top of everything. There is nothing to worry about. Wash your hands."Urgent message from the President of the United States: Observe basic human cleanliness!!Whew! Sure glad he told us. Next message - take a shower at least once a day!!Gosh!! Ya think?
@wankiam No, just cackling hysteria from a culture suffering from a dearth of practicing adults.
well bojo has done his hand wash speech too but ironically went against who guidlines just to add extra fuel to the fire... fossil fuel ofcourse
@wankiam Well, at least we know now that both sides of the Pond are covered.Phew! I feel so much safer now!!
yeah, you know the message is getting really through when you can't buy a toilet roll anywhere anymore lol
@wankiam My girlfriend and I have not done the week's shopping yet. I fully expect empty store shelves - what panic would be complete without a run on toilet paper, right?We have three kids - can't wait till the rationing begins!!
Finally... Someone with a brain!
@VitaBellaX Thanks for your very kind comment.
This bitch is stupid bro. I tell ya man females think they know everything they belong in the kitchen
just declare global martial law,
@NatalieKeller95 That's dumb
I don't believe it's actually that fatal, but most countries have dropped the ball on testing. Even the WHO has hinted that the true number when testing is all said and done, will most likely be 1% or under for mortality rate. I doubt south korea has such a better medical service than china or US or getting only mild strains going there way vs other countries. They have the mortality rate of.06%. You know why? Because they've done sweeping testing across the board and no other country to that extent. But it's shown people with mild symptons who have covid 19 and positive that other countries have not tested, so not counted in the data. There's is closer to the actual picture out of most countries that are severely lacking and why some look bad with mortality rate. It's because there are much much more infections not even counted or just a few because of low test kits, faulty ones or just not doing enough of it.
@brennanhuff I agree not all people who got sick from this are in the numbers and it might be less than 3%, but for arguments sake lets say it is, that;s still not high enough to cause any panic. but people are panicking
well that's not good. oh it is to be privileged. I'm young and strong, but I don't have a fucking spleen. Had to have it removed when a kid. I've had the flu when young and got through that, but yeah I don't know how one that is fucking 2.5 or higher works for me. Yes 3.5 is 30 fucking times stronger. the privilege to be perfectly healthy huh? That's why it irritates me that is' made worse when I don't believe it is, but also why other still think it's not a big deal if it's actually 3.5 or 2.5. You know the Spanish flu killed millions of people was 2.5? So yes, let's realize that this is not panic worthy. Not because this, it only kills old people and not young, but because it's most likely 1% or under in mortality rate. South korea has not magical strain than others. They've simply tested everyone, which is why it's shown how most get a mild symptom and more reflection of the actual date and it's definitely very similar to the regular flu in mortality rate
@brennanhuff why are you getting angry about this. if we get sick and our bodies can't fight it off, there is nothing we can do about it. 1% or 3.5% is not panic worthy BUT I am not saying we don't need to be careful. we absolutely should do all we can to keep our immune system as strong as possible, wash hands, keep ourselves away from germs as much as we can. what will panicking do? just stress our bodies more and it's just useless. the way people blow this out of proportion is unrealistic, 3.5% could be just as devastating or worse as the Spanish flu, hopefully it won't be, but did you read the title of this question? she is already thinking of apocalypse, come on man.
there's a big difference, one is like a flu the other much worse. Your body has a much better chance of fighting off something 1% or under vs 3%. I don't believe it's actually that high though and why it's not panic worthy. Most countries are failing on testing all the people who have it that are mild which is why it's skewed and why there's too much read into the percentage given right not by the media declaring it as bad it is to scare people. Only south korea and maybe germany have tested to fullest extent. China hides a lot of their information, so as much testing they've had, I believe much more were infected.
That's really a good thought dear
It is confirmed. You even have images of the damn thing from multiple independent sources.And guess what, flu is caused by a coronavirus as well. By the way, it being a coronavirus has only an effect on a possible vaccine.By the way, this virus does not kill you. It simply supresses some immune responses while leaves others alone. Which, in laymans terms mean, that your own body will kill you with its immune reaction.
@s2firestar "... flu is caused by a coronavirus as well." No, it's not. Not even the same Phylum of virii.Realm: RiboviriaPhylum: NegarnaviricotaClass: InsthoviricetesOrder: ArticulaviralesFamily: OrthomyxoviridaeGenera: Influenzavirus A-DRealm: RiboviriaPhylum: incertae sedisOrder: NidoviralesSuborder: CornidovirineaeFamily: Coronaviridae
luckily I don't believe the kill ratio is 3%. Most countries are not testing or are under testing people who have it because most people who have it have mild cases or no symptoms. As much as china may be hiding the death rate, I believe the infection rate is much more than they've lead on to. The proportion is great enough with infections not counted to death rates not counted, that the rate would be under 1% if it was. My hypothesis for this is because test kits and testing has lagged for not just the US but many other countries. The only country to have done sweeping tests and as a result get high volume of cases because it gets the mild with the bad is South Korea. Their mortality rate is.06%... you know similar to the flu. Does South korea have such better medial hospitals or treatment to japan, or china or US? Or they miraculously have a weaker strain that some reason is only hitting that country? I highly doubt that. It's because they've tested extensively more so than rest of the countries, which has brought them close to the truth than rest of the world, severely under testing and under reporting infections. Even the WHO has hinted, there's a good chance the mortality rate will be 1% or below when more tests come in for rest of the countries. Who knows if the US will get to more testing which they really need to catch up. Putting your head in the sane doesn't make the virus go away but just helps it spread more.
that was bad, that would be worthy of some panic. I believe it's mortality rate is that of our flu. We already have the logical glimmer to show that before all date has been tallied. South korea and Germany have been the only countries to really rest and take control of thing. South korea has tested wide spread which had them get many people who get it but with mild symptoms that other countries have skipped or lacked in testing. As a result the mortality rate is.06%, which is similar of the flu. I believe because all of the other countries, have not tested and have a ton of miss evidecent of many more people with the virus but they have mild symptoms. That's important missing data. Even the WHo admit the percent will most likely drop or go 1% or under when it's tracked.
But it does spread super fast that the only problem
