In the modern era, there has also been a scarcity of experimental evidence to support the effectiveness of facemasks in the prevention of surgical site infections.
Sounds like a completely unreasonable risk to not wear a mask during a pandemic... and especially during major surgery. This article has links to a study supporting mask wearing: www.ucsf.edu/.../still-confused-about-masks-heres-science-behind-how-face-masks-prevent
I could find you plenty more that dispute the effectiveness of masks. If it's an unreasonable risk to go mask free, then tell me by what percentage. What is your personal threshold for 'unreasonable'?
I have had many surgeries. If a surgeon told me that they (including any other medical personnel in the OR} were not going to wear a mask because the research is questionable about the effectiveness of wearing a mask, I would most certainly request another surgeon. Many countries around the world practice mask wearing as an act of courtesy when sick. In the US, it seems to be perceived as an assault on personal liberty and freedom by many. I believe that it is an act of patriotism, courtesy and respect. We can agree to disagree...
You can have an opinion, but you can't have facts. Wear all the masks you want. Do not force others to follow your beliefs.
I am not "forcing" anyone to do anything. I am expressing myself regarding this issue... just like you are. I choose to be considerate of others and do what I can to protect them. I care about my family, my friends and my community. Wearing a mask is the least that I can do.
Lmao, And I care about mine. What’s the point? I won’t wear a mask because they’re ineffective and dehumanizing.
Interesting that you would refer to wearing a mask as "dehumanizing." This just reflects profound selfishness. You are making this all about you... not others. Asymptomatic folks can be super spreaders with no symptoms. If you want to take that risk, then you go right ahead. I will err on the side of caution... especially as COVID-19 hospitalizations are skyrocketing around the county right now. So, you keep having major surgeries with no one wearing masks in the OR... and keep believing that wearing a mask "dehumanizes" you and is completely "ineffective." I pray that you or anyone you care about does NOT get COVID-19.
LOL, here comes the fake moral finger-wagging. That shit doesn't fly with me. First, you're factually incorrect. There is absolutely NO evidence that asymptomatic people (or presymptomatic) are major spreaders. At MOST, they account for 2% of infections. This is backed up by the CDC and the WHO.Second, it's dehumanizing to EVERYONE. Not just me. So I can play the finger-wagging morality game and say that YOU don't care about others. You are now treating everyone in your community as a threat to your health. That's not good for society at all.Third, I've shown you that studies have shown that masks are ineffective in the operating room. You want to cling to the notion that they are solely because of your emotions, not any factual information.Lastly, I've had covid, as have members of my family. And we've all shrugged it off like a minor cold. My experience is in the vast majority.
"shrugged if off like a minor cold"..."My experience is in the vast majority." Hmmm, where have I heard that before? Ok, you just identified yourself as a troll. I will no longer waste any more time with you. Have a great day!
What’s so hard about minding your own business if I don’t wear one.
