This year, I’m only exchanging cards with my boyfriend. I don’t believe in giving gifts or anything like that for Valentine’s day.

For my girlfriend and I, it just so happens that it was around Valentine's Day that we had our first (official) date. (We had known each other for about 4 months before then). It was also right around the time she moved in with me. We have been together now for over ten years and have three children, so since we decided that we did not want to be married, we made Valentine's Day our anniversary.
Consequently, each year, right around the day itself, we take the kids to the grandparents and spend a weekend just the two of us - either at a top of the line hotel in the city (DC) or at a B&B on the Chesapeake. We go out dancing, go to dinners, lay in bed till noon, all sorts of stuff - oh, and we have sex too. We love being parents, but we make it "just a couples" weekend.
This year we are going to the hotel the weekend after the holiday. On the day itself, since it is not a day off this year, I will likely get her flowers and a card, and she'll make a special dinner with candy and a card at each table setting - one each for the kids and one for me.
(My card always include a "coupon" for some wish of my choice. What will it be? What will... it... be?)2

We always get something but we don’t go out for a meal. Although we aren’t overly picky eaters at valentines and Christmas everyone does weird menus which we both hate. We prefer to opt for a film and pizza in bed.2
