Is it hypocritical that a feminist enjoys watching James Deen?

I'm a sex-postive feminist. I see nothing wrong with nudity, safe sex or pornography. As long as it is consented and not used gratuitously. I understand in porn that nudity is nessacary for stimulation and pleasure. I have nothing against any of that. I enjoy watching James Deen and I realize he's been accused of rape which he has denied. But knowing the kind of work he does which is BDSM. BDSM is seen more as a fetish rather than sexual pleasure, often humilating, gross and extreme. Which is something feminism is against. Not every one, but maybe some. Feminists over the years have been fighting to ban pornography, I understand why but to me it's like they're banning sex all together. We all enjoy sex, it's healthy and natural. I'm also against rape of course. I don't enjoy watching the BSDM, i try to watch the normal stuff, just plain sex. Some might say i enjoy watching porn let alone James Deen, because it would be supporting watching a rapist. What do you think? Please don't send me Wikipedia pages on pornography, rape, BSDM, feminism. I've read them all.

  • Number one, anything that's legally recorded in the US adult industry could hardly be described as "extreme". I mean, don't take this the wrong way, but, what goes on in my own marriage would absolutely make Mr. Deen look like an altar boy.

Number two, I find it... interesting that you'd just declare that "feminism is against" BDSM per se, when, really, nothing could be further from the truth.

  • Not all feminists are against bdsm. Most are against the dehumanization of women in non consensual forms but there are feminists that are sexually liberal and try to lessen the stigma of sex.

I watch James Deen a lot too but have been doing less because though I understand that in the porn industry can be a grueling place for anyone to work in, I can't fully excuse anyone from violating terms set during consensual sex. Its unprofessional.

  • This is the first time I've heard that feminists were against BDSM. I thought sex-positivity encompassed people's right to freely express their sexuality in any way (consensually, obviously). Some people find the extreme and humiliating nature of BSDM to be sexually pleasurable. That's more hypocritical than you watching James Deen.

  • Feminism isn't against BDSM. i'm a feminist and I love BDSM. Feminist are against the fact that porn objectifies women or that men are seen just as disembodied penises. I see there being no problem with you liking James Dean. It's just a matter of your own personal stance.

  • We get off on what we get off on. It's all fine in the fantasy world, and the fantasy world is just as big for girls as for guys. Bigger, really. In the real world, we all need to respect each other. That should square with feminist principles if they're going to be at all realistic. When reality and ideology clash, you know which one wins.

  • nah james deen's stuff is good, you're analysing way too much. it's not you're fault what he was alleged to have done offset. and feminists can like porn - nothing is more anti-feminist than saying a woman cannot participate in an activity she has consented too.

  • Well, immoral is a better description than hypicritical - assuming he did rape someone.

  • It's just entertainment. Since when were feminists not allowed to be entertained?

  • Everything is hypocritical about feminism... just add it to the list.

  • Its quite normal to be honest. Feminism is an extreme view on things - aka the view and denial of big differences between men and women (else you can't objectively demand equality). The other extreme fence is bdsm and the shown submissiveness.

What happens is that your sexuality balanced out your personal extreme. Yin-Yang.

  • Its not hypocritical at all...

  • you are NOT feminist if you condone pornography. its pure misogynism both in the way se happens, how he always finishes on her fac, how women are literally raped very frequently in the shootings and screm and shout stop it stop it. countless tapes like that have leaked. if you dont hate porn= are not a feminist.

    • "like trying to ban real sex" FAAAIIL. real sex has nothing to do with pornography.

    • There's sexual penetration going on, close up, a guy's white cum comes shooting out onto a girl's face, stomach, vagina or breasts. It's real sex. If it were fake then it'd be like watching a movie with stimulation.

  • Not unless you enjoy watching the scenes in which he committed rape.
But then maybe I wouldn't know. I'm primal-positive egotist so I think if you have any desire you should act on it regardless of the consequences or thought/feelings of others.
