My boyfriend has a rape fetish, is this normal?

This is the third time he has brought it up, I am wondering if this a red flag or not. I asked if he had any other twisted fetish, he said it was only the rape and a threesome. Is this a common thing?

  • as someone who has been sexually assaulted, i may be biased, but i've never understood the concept of a "rape fetish" and i don't believe that there is such a thing.

your boyfriend doesn't have a rape fetish~ he fantasizes about the control aspect, about dominating someone and having her at his mercy. there is a huge difference between the two, and he should familiarize himself with them.

bdsm is one thing, and it can be a lot of fun between consenting adult partners (with the use of a "safe" word that means "stop").

rape is not about sex, it's about control~ it's scary and degrading, not to mention the obvious (it's a crime). if he truly does romanticize rape, in the true sense of the word, it is a major red flag and your boyfriend needs help, as this means that he considers violence as a normal response.

    • I too have been assaulted as a child, and it's a touchy subject, l told him about it and since then he hasn't brought it up, but I can't help to think that he still has the fetish and it makes me a bit worried

    • then you need to be honest with both him and yourself~ it's good that he hasn't brought it up again. but, since he knows about your past and you're concerned, he needs to put your mind at ease (and you need to decide whether or not he's someone you want to date). most importantly, don't feel that you have to have any kind of sex that you aren't super into.

    • Thank you, I will take this to heart

  • No it's definetly not normal at all. Get as far away from him as you can and tell your family about it. If he keeps talking about the fetish call the police for sexual harassment..

  • He probably has watched some rape porn. Rather than push him away. I would ask him to share his porn with you and see if you can understand him. If after this you cannot connect then it was not meant to be. But from my understanding rape fetish is different from rape. Sometimes men don't understand what rape really means because today's pornogrphy can be so violent and typically the women in these films are desiring these things. I'm guessing your boy friend isn't really into rape. Just fantasy. If he's really into rape then of course run away from him.

  • Sounds pretty normal to me, not my particular thing but I think he clear knows it's just a fantasy and wouldn't act on it also it's pretty common rape fantasies particularly in women here's a quick C+P: From 1973 through 2008, nine surveys of women's rape fantasies have been published. They show that about four in 10 women admit having them (31 to 57 percent) with a median frequency of about once a month. Actual prevalence of rape fantasies is probably higher because women may not feel comfortable admitting them.

  • I think it's somewhat normal. My girlfriend actually has one

  • I actually think it is more common among females than males. It's not actually worse than BDSM...

  • If doing it is his fetish, it's time for treatment before he makes a victim!
If he's only interested in reading or seeing movies on the subject, it may be okay and fairly innocent...

  • I think rape fantasies are normal for both genders but pressuring you into it is a red flag.

  • I don't know if he has a rape fetish or if he likes rough sex.

  • Rape fetish is tame. I was role playing rape with my highschool girlfriend when I was 15...

Actually, come to think of it, I am a bit of a sociopath. So yeah, maybe it's a red flag.

  • As long as he doesn't ACTUALLY rape anyone, it's fine, I gues he just likes the idea of the power but I don't know

  • Here, read this:
    www.psychologytoday.com/.../don-t-call-them-rape-fantasies

Most people don't want to be raped or rape. It's a dominance-submissive things, since the sex is CONSENSUAL.

  • If he is serious about it, I think this is indeed a red flag about many OTHER things about him that you may not know.

    • a red flag for what?

  • I thought more girls had this than guys

    • Might I just say girls asked for opinions on it on her and got full support. One guy was totally against it and he got torn apart in the comments. So you can be concerned and all, but hear the man out.

  • Weird as hell.
If it were me I'd be outa there.

  • I have always though rape fetish are dangerous.
I try to move away from this type of people

  • For men? Not really.

For women? Stupidly common. I mean, its that and girlsex. And supposedly MOST women have those fantasies. Both of them.

  • I kinda have the same fantasy. Not actually rape. But just taking my girl and fucking the hell out of her and using her as a fuck toy. Only there to get me off and that's it.

  • I'd treat that as a red flag.

  • All rape fantasy/fetish is normal. Fantasizing Raping someone is really normal.

    • Little kids too?

    • @Daniel961 yep. It's all perfectly normal.
