What's your BMI? & What's the band size of your bra?

I'm 5'0 and weigh 85 pounds (yes, I've been gaining weight!) with a BMI of 16.6, which is underweight compared to the average minimum healthy weight of 18.5. I was curious about whether my small band size (27) is related to my underweight BMI.

It's practically impossible to buy a bra with a band size below 32; if I become a healthy weight, will my band size increase? (For those who don't know, "band size" refers to the size of the ribcage & the body fat that surrounds the ribcage - you can see my ribs below my breasts, so my lack of fat in that area probably contributes to my small band size.)

So let's see if there's a correlation: what's your BMI? (Calculate here if you don't know.) & What's your band size? If you don't know, here's how to measure:
Measure just below your breasts, & your
Measure just below your breasts, & your "band" is whatever number overlaps with "zero" when the two ends of the tape meet.
Do NOT add any inches to your band size (I used to wear 32in bands, because my aunt added 5in to my band size when she measured it; apparently adding 4-5in used to be common, but it's a method that's not used anymore.)

Dudes with moobs can also answer if they feel like measuring themselves.

I guess I'll put this in the "sexuality" tag because it has to do with bras & I don't know where else to classify it, but mods can move the question if they wish.

Band size according to the lady at the store who done my fitting she said my band size was 10 Australian size

I was underweight I used to weighed just 38 kilos and my BMI was just 16 I found that when I did gain weight I gained some weight around my rib area the bra I had wore when I was underweight that fit me perfectly were now very tight and uncomfortable because the band became tight so I do believe the band size will go up if you do gain weight

  • Bone structure matters a lot

You can be chunky small boned person with a smaller band size than a skinny broad boned person

NOT saying you are chunky lol

I didn’t know you shouldn’t add anymore!! Thank you for telling me - that was really annoying lol 😅

So can I just go by my actual inches not what they would be if I added?

    • Oh and yes it MIGHT increase if you tend to gain weight in your torso.. of not there will not be much change I do not tend to store weight in that area, so it did not change much in that area so even when I gained weight ( on purpose) it didn’t alter much - though my boobs went up two sizes (wasn’t happy lol but I dk what I expected really 🤷‍♀️)

    • Well, it depends on what you're most comfortable with. You may be more comfortable adding 4-5in, or may be more comfortable with your precise number of actual inches. Check out this website for more information: www.thelingerieaddict.com/.../...r-the-answer.html

Apparently my bone size is medium. (I have a "medium frame" according to the wrist measurement test.)

    • 5 11 135 BMI 18.8 Band size 30 My bones are relatively large, but I do not hold much weight around my rib cage so my band is still relatively small- not like yours I can still find bras 😁. .. It was smaller 25 pounds ago. Though I don’t think by much, bc I never had too much trouble finding stuff that fit. 😊

  • Heyo,

Not really the target demographic, but have experience that is relevant to the topic.

Used to be a personal trainer, and a couple female clients expressed to me the need to replace their bras due to either fat loss or muscle gain (especially in the upper back).

  • A pretty nice 23 to 25 BMI. Oh and no bands lol Don't even know why I voted 😂
