Have babies ever died from circumcision before?

If babies survived the surgical procedure, what problems do they experienced and will experienced in adult hood?

  • Circumcision is only necessary in a few case, which manifest themselves LATER IN LIFE. Is seems, from all the previous questions and opinions on this subject, that it is an American obsession, probably through tradition and ignorance, rather that medical necessity.

All this bullshit about it being more hygienic needs some serious quantification and qualification. Here is some info taken in a 30 second search:

    • Thank you for MHG!

    • Thanks for posting these links! I think one of the only ways to make the practice of routine infant circumcision less common is through education and information like this. A lot of new parents only know what the tri-fold pamphlet the hospital hands them contains and don't really know much else about it.

  • It is not a major surgery and just some snip and suture. In fact, it is usually done at a certain time after birth where the blood coagulation is at it's peak so there is very little bleeding.

    • But it's a delicate surgery when you have to be careful how to strip the foreskin out of a tiny penis. It doesn't seem to be just a simple operation when new borns are prone to infections having surgeries so young. David Reimer had his penis burnt off by a botched mistake and had to be reassigned as a girl without his consent until he changed back officially into a boy at 15. He shot himself in his late thirties.

    • I've seen David in movies where he is a lot older than 30, like in his 50's. Is this the same guy who was in The Warriors?

  • I'm absolutely sure this must have happened at some time or other, but like a lot of things there has probably been a huge cover-up.

  • I have read news on twitter that there were instances of irresponsible surgeries and botched cirucumcison which has lead to deaths. But it's very very are and I am very sure it's like one in a billion of such a case. I am circumcised and I am alive. So I think I can vouch for it

    • They didn't properly care to the wound

  • Yes it death does happen in some cases of routine infant circumcision http://www.cirp.org/library/death/

  • It is entirely possible that a baby has died as a direct or indirect result of circumcision. The main threats would be infection or an allergic reaction to anaesthetic.

  • circumcision removes the cluster of nerves around the head of the penis and is supposed to stop guys from committing sins of the flesh as it was a religious thing. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and other times is just removes all feeling from the penis so huzzah for stupid and all that.

    • I don't know where you get this information. It only removes a flap of skin, not the nerves unless it is a home done hack job. done by some drunk tribesman.

    • @TrixiePooch straight from a medical journal just because I so enjoy being right and then rubbing in peoples faces. For procreation to occur, the normally flaccid penis must become erect. As it changes from flaccidity to rigidity, the penis increases in length about 50 percent. As it elongates, the double fold of skin (foreskin) provides the skin necessary for full expansion of the penile shaft. But microscopic examination reveals that the foreskin is more than just penile skin necessary for a natural erection; it is specialized tissue, richly supplied with blood vessels, highly innervated, and uniquely endowed with stretch receptors. These attributes of the foreskin contribute significantly to the sexual response of the intact male. The complex tissue of the foreskin responds to stimulation during sexual activity. Stretching of the foreskin over the glans penis activates preputial nerve endings, enhances sexual excitability, and contributes to the male ejaculatory reflex.

    • I don't know, circumcised guys have no trouble getting off so it seems like they didn't get them all.

  • no I don't think that has ever happened.. people don't die even if you chop off the whole penis..

    • They can bleed to death or develop other complications, such as infection, that come with any type of amputation.

    • I think they would die because of loss of blood, if you chop off the whole penis

    • Wow. This is quite a revelation. This might bring open a new case or even inspire someone to start a new question 😂

  • Yes, mostly from infection.

  • I don't think so... How sad if they did...

  • not that i know of it would have to be some really rare freak accident i think. in my opinion i am so damn happy my big guy is circumcised its looks so much nicer and i feel so much more manlier and it makes everything so damn smooth and clean! uncircumcised looks like a dog's penis lmfao but that's just my opinion

  • Wow reasonable overreaction much? I'm circumcised and it's fucking great! No problems

    • This isn't about you but thousands of babies who have undergone the procedures experiencing problems.

  • I don't know about that, but as for circulations going wrong look up the David Reimer case.

  • Yes. They have also developed a lot of health complications and contracted diseases such as herpes.

    • Do you mean herpes-1

    • I dunno which type. I just know there are numerous reports of infants contracting herpes from circumcision.

    • Well herpes-2 is a sexually transmitted disease and is painful to have.

  • Yes of course. If they survive they suffer from a great lack of sensitivity and pleasure during sex.

Overall unless it's greatly needed for medical reasons I think genital mutilation which is what circumcision is should be illegal

    • Well I for sure think that it should be the man's decision as to whether he wants to get circumcised so therefore it shouldn't be done to babies because they can't make the choice.

    • Logically

  • Of course. A lot die during that. They will loose most of their sensitivity in that are a
