The guy that I have known for a few years has got a new girlfriend.

He knows that I had serious feelings for him and because of a lot of other issues(mostly with me), we have not gotten together. I know that at one time he had the same feelings for me too. I assume that if these feelings were still strong, he would be with me, but like I said there are a lot of other issues going on too.

Long story short, he called me "baby" the other day. He is not one to give nicknames out to his girlfriends and have never known him to do so in the past. I told him not to do that since he had a girlfriend and I was not his "baby. " He wanted to know what had gotten into me.

Was it just a slip of the tongue or something more?.

Obviously I can't speak for this guy your mentioning but I am one who rarely calls a girl by anything other than her name. To be honest there is only two, one is an x whom I still love and would do anything for and another is a girl that I am really interested in. The first time I said it it was a slip up but I didn't worry about it and neither did she and I now call her that on a regular basis. I really hope that you can figure out what's going through his head.

First off, you did the right thing by telling him not to do that. If it was an innocent slip of the tongue then fine, you can both move on. If it wasn't then you need to look at his motivations for saying it. If he did have some other purpose for calling you 'baby,' and then came back with the remark asking you what had gotten into you then I would look at it suspiciously. Is this a guy that is trying to work himself into a position of having his cake and eating it too? Probably.

Question Asker I was thinking the same thing. He has NEVER called me that before. I have tried to put a stop to all of that. Don't see him that much. He acts like it is old times. He waited a few minutes then continued with names and sexual gestures though I asked him not to. - 9 months ago
