Lately there is a lot of attention on "Alpha" for both men and women, mostly in the workplace. I read a brief article by a woman who specializes in helping other women become an "Alpha Female" at work. She states that women tend to feel and show too much emotion while at work and hold grudges long after an argument is over and a decision was made. That women can learn from men how to better manage feelings in the office and get over disagreements in meetings.

Ironic that women are encouraged to learn from men at WORK but men are encouraged to learn from women at HOME with regards to feelings. Interesting.

Anyway, ladies, are you an Alpha Female at work (or school)? If so, what are your secrets? If not, why not?

From high school until now, I had a lot of part time jobs in restaurants, mostly, ... a grocery store (that had a union), landscaping, construction, one day of telemarketing.

Now with the restaurants, most of the waitresses and cooks who were nice, got whatever they wanted done first, from me. Since I was just new to the job, and taking orders from everyone, I responded to the nice women first. The people who were like over-delagating in their ways, had to wait. I was 15-17.

Then I worked in a grocery store, and when I was the small person on the food chain, my boss who is a guy called everyone in he back room and said "You guys haven't gotten anything done! What are you all standing in your aisle twiddling your thumbs! (what he actually said was in a refrence to men masterbating, if you get the drift, but let me continue), and while a little while later, we all took a break, and 5 people walked out that night. Half-way through their shift, they walked out.

Then I had more women managers in other departments, and the alpha females who led by example, and knew what they were doing, did a heck of a job. The ones who tried to act like they knew what they were doing, usually ended up transferred, because they didn't know how to stick to the budget, they just acted like it. But the same went for men, there was a union, too. Where we have union stuards to support the hiring of equallity, all the way around (which is also often walked all over, too, so I guess it kinda doesn't matter, unless the union stuard feels like sticking up for someone or not, depends on the scenario) But I have seen the union work the way it is supose to, too. And in a grocery store, every department is like a team, and if you don't geta long and we vote you to leave the department, guess what, see ya. And if this happens a few times, that person ends up outside getting carriges in the parking lot, by themself.

Then I became a department manager, and the women store managers were usually really nice, until you break one of, I guess, cardinal rules ... like each one had certain pet pieves you just didn't mess with. And they'll warn you about them, but don't cross the line. Like maybe excessive lateness, or attendance (these are just examples of pet pieves) because they wouldn't really yell at ya, unless they didn't get through to ya. They can mess with schedules and all kinds of things, and all the store manager's (girl or guy), after they warn ya, they like to surprise you somehow, and catch you when they messed with the schedule and see how bad a department manager sinks or swims. Thats how they test what the department manager is really made of, can they keep it together under pressure, is what their looking for.

I also seen women working in consrtuction, where everyone kinda had to be an alpha person, but also a team player. Still, you have to watch you back.

And then there's Alpha-Caesar, and Alpha-Brutus - tried and true, and stab you in the back.

Here's my guy-perspective on the workplace. This goes for every place I've worked at.

Every single person I work with is my competition who's only goal is to f*** me over for their own ends. The boss isn't a man to be respected, he's just another guy like me, so don't give him an ounce more respect than it takes to keep your job. If I could get someone fired for a 10% raise for me, I'd hand them the pink slip myself. If I feel that someone is taking credit for my work, I'll blatantly point it out and do whatever I can in the future to sabotage them. If someone is the weak link in the office, I make sure the boss knows it.

It sounds mean, but the workplace has no room for friendships. You are competing with your co-workers from day one, and if you want to get ahead you have to have the mentality that you're totally willing to f*** them over for a dollar. It's cruel, but you have to assume that at least one of them is doing the same to you. Ever wonder why the biggest prick assholes move up? Because they f***ed the rest over. You have to be willing to call someone a total f***head to their face in front of a room of people. You have to be ok with everyone hating you.

This is an over generalization and a stereotype, but women tend to not posses those qualities. Ultimately, being ok with everyone hating you and being ok with f***ing anyone over for any reason that benefits you, while still putting on the show that you like everyone is tough but it's what it takes to move up.

Girl,
That is a fantastic question ! Since my screen name is Hot Alpha Female I feel obliged to answer it ! LoL

Alpha Females . Firstly what are they all about ? Well to me I really see them as girls who aren't willing to settle less than they deserve . In some ways I would like to think that there is a hot alpha female within us all, which is this untapped personal power that allows us to achieve anything and everything that we so richly deserve .

But speaking more about alpha females . I think they have the tendency to be fairly dominant in personality and in their life in general . In many ways they are aggressive and go after exactly what they want .

I actually don't think this is the part that guys find intimidating . Like I have said before in someone else's question, the main thing that turns guys off alpha females . Is that some alpha females just come across as down right bitchy and down right scary . Lol

In many ways there is this whole un-surrendered thing going on, where the woman really wants to take control of not only her work life but of her relationship .

This is what frightens men . Who wants to be with a girl who doesn't allow her man to be a man .

That is pretty much the sole problem with alpha females .

With that said, there are a lot of alpha females out there who are quit successful in all areas of their life and are happy to surrender and give that control to a guy who is worthy of her time and attention and can basically challenge her and keep her interest .

I think it takes a certain guy to have to guts to date an alpha female, but provided they are the right match, it can prove to be a very exciting challenging and fulfilling relationship

Hope that answered the question . Sort of . Kind of . Lol

I'd like to be. I'm always wearing my heart on my sleeve and I take everything to heart. Being in the Navy, there's no room for that but I can't help it.

Hm, since a female perspective seems to be missing here. Allow me to take one for the teamsters, since I've been considered the Alpha of Alpha Females. Darn that should have been my screenname! Lol. I'm not in the least shocked that an article such as that one was made. You see the problem is there are plenty of Alpha Females, they've just all been referred to 'That Bitch' or 'The Lesbian' or 'The Hot Chick'. You see the problem doesn't lie in women taking the reigns in the workplace, but the guys willing to state their position. So girls stick to what they know 'The Big Boobed One' or 'The Virgin'. Girls on the other hands don't use that,we're perfectly fine in saying "He's my boss. " But men don't seem to be totally mature enough to say 'She's my boss' without a chuckle. Or a curse at the end. Ya know the one that rhymes with "Ditch" (BITCH lol).

It seems no matter my thing, sports, school, and work. I've always been the Alpha. I just have an assertive personality. So what makes you an Alpha anything? Being able to know what you want, and being able to successfully go about getting it. It's not about having the "F*** you" attitude. Because I've seen plenty come in with that passion, and not go far. It's about having that attitude with intelligence and a plan. You have to be a leader to the followers of the world. I realized early on that people as a mass, are incredibly passive. Everyones waiting for a plan,so why not place mine out first? So at the work place I stated what needed to be done, and was willing to do it myself. Therefore showing people that I'm not about just ordering, but anything I tell you to do I've done it and can do it without you. So when I climbed the corporate ladder,I had a lot of competitors. Mainly males, because females at my workplace have strong inner strength but don't voice themselves nearly enough.

I admit that men are only more productive at the workplace because they have that 'win or lose' approach. They win it all and become the boss or they are nothing. Women just want to be settled and content in whatever they choose to do.

As a female boss and being young,it's double the trouble for me. I have to show them that despite age and gender I know what I'm about. My line in a meeting to an older man was,"Don't assume that because of my age,I'm naive. Because if you assume that with my age, perhaps I should assume that wisdom didn't come with yours. With that I turned back and continued my plans for the company. Also being attractive, you learn to accept that sexuality is okay. But if they try to cross a line on it I come down harder on them. More important, don't ever get involved with a co-worker. Personalizing work, always spells disaster with leadership.

So the secret to being an Alpha, doesn't matter where you go or you do. If you're an Alpha you are. An Alpha is Leading and not Following. And letting people know you can do it with or without them. But if I get it done without you? I don't need you. You're fired!

Describe your ideal first date; Where do you go? What do you wear? How does the date end?
Dinner followed by a walk on the beach... Nothing sets the mood like getting your toes in the sand under the stars, listening to the ocean... I would spend the night captivating her mind and let her know what I am about... It would end with a hug and a kiss on the cheek, so she could feel my lips but not experience the kiss...

Afterwards..what will your date know about you?
She would know that I am real and she is intrigued and that she is dying to see me again...

Would you date me?
