This is one fact of the opposite sex that has always amused and intrigued me. I've been told that it's not gay as long as they say, "good game". One guy even told me that it's only gay if you get a boner lol not sure what he meant by that but I really want to know why some things are socially acceptable and some aren't.

I think it's very gay . A congratulatory hug is fine, but I have never felt the need to grab a teammate's butt in order to indicate that he made a good pass . I had a friend who used to do this all the time when we played hoops . No one ever reciprocated, so eventually he stopped . Made me wonder at times, though, if I really wanted to make the shot and be praised .

I think it's okay to compliment one another on basic things, like work success or a funny joke . Also, losing weight or gaining muscle . Not okay to say "Hey Nick, your ass looks great tonight . " No, that's definitely not okay . And truthfully guys' butts don't look good .

This behavior doesn't make sense to me either .

It all starts in the football locker room during junior high or high school . During the time when the football team has to change clothes and completely strip down to put on their jock strap, most of them turn gay for those 15 minutes . At least from my town, that's the truth for the junior high and high school football team . But as soon as they go out to the field, they stop being gay . . . Until practice is over and they have to go back in the locker room again .

They are doing a lot more than slapping each others' asses during "changing time" (and yes that has a double meaning) . But also you can sometimes see coaches slapping the asses of their players in pro sports (it's rare, but its' true) . So the trend is, if a guy played sports in high school or junior high, that's probably where he "inherited" that behavior from .

Personally I'd far rather take the compliment than have some guy slapping me on the ass. I'd hate that. The guy mentioning the 'boner' means that you can do anything so long as you don't get turned on by it. I must admit, if a guy did get turned on by something another guy did, that WOULD be gay.

The slapping on the butt is a sports thing. But at work its more of a joke. Guys are funny and like to make gay jokes, or to joke about being gay. I don't know why to be honest. We're just weird creatures I guess.

Question Asker Lol yes but weird is interesting - 5 months ago
Answerer I mean, I have a buddy at work who always says gay stuff like raping my butt and stuff. Lol it's kind of disturbing sometimes. But I know he's straight. He's actually a man slut, lol. He'll sleep with any girl. But I don't know if he does it for the reaction or what. It's kind of funny. But kind of weird. Who knows. Guys are guys, lol. - 5 months ago

Thats actually one I don't get. What is up with the manly ass smack? What ever happened to a pat on the shoulder? I can honestly say that I believe this is tad bit homosexual. I mean yeah ok so you say your secure enough with your sexuality but do you need to prove it to yourself or anyone else by smacking your buddies ass? I don't think so there are plenty other ways to show recognition. The high five, the hand shake, the pat on the back. What makes another man go for the ass of another man? I mean if you were being paid to do it, that's understandable. But I just can't comprehend why a straight man would need to feel the meat of another man's ass in his palm? I don't know. It's a brain teaser fo' sho

Question Asker It's funny because it's true! Lol I don't know if I'm laughing more because your answer is so funny or because I'm in total agreement and it's awesome that a guy finally sees this from the same pov as I do! Lol - 5 months ago

I don't know that it is un-masculine to compliment another guy, I think that is a myth. Guys don't do it because most guys don't like to feelings to one another. If you really watch some guys like to bust each others balls just give each other a hard time. This is in some cases a sign of affection. The slap on the ass is more a sports thing. It is just like a high five. You wouldn't see a guy slapping another guy on the ass at work. Just a thought

What pickup lines do you use to start a conversation with someone you are attracted to?
I'm not overly shy so if I see someone I like I will just start talking to them.. depends on the setting I guess. I don't do any true "pickup lines", but I do often say something like 'hey, you look nice - are you here with your friends tonight." or "Hey, having a good time" If they are interested this seems to work most of the time.

How do they typically respond?
Most girls either just walk away or make small talk and leave.. but some appreciate the straightforward approach and will keep talking to me. Any suggestions?

Do I have the right approach?
