Us men enjoy beautiful things, shiny things, big round or tall things. Hence our attraction to a vary voluptuous or tall slender glistening haired bright eyed wonder of the modern world. Men love women simply put, but men crave the supermodel type because of their confidence, beauty and fly sense of style.
I'd actually like to throw an alternate idea onto the table that hasn't been stated yet. While I personally enjoy the fit look on a girl because its a sign to me that she's healthy and takes good care of herself, there's more reason why that look is predominant in our culture as the 'must have' look.
Globalphreak delved into it a little bit in mentioning that its the attraction of the unattainable.
Interestingly enough in other cultures and other times a girl that looked like a supermodel here does may not be seen as very attractive at all.
We've all seen the art of the romantic era and how the women in them look. None of them are incredibly slim and toned like our super models today are, most of them are rather voluptuous and curvy, to a point that they would never even be considered as a runway model if they attempted to model today.
How many modern female animated characters are shapely by today's societal standards? Hourglass bodies and generous busts? Just as that represents our what is 'hot' to our culture, the romantic art represents beauty of that time.
Back then, being larger was a sign of wealth and a well off family, a sign of an above average and very uncommon status on the girls part. Skinny, plainer looking girls who had to work every day to help support their poorer families were seen everywhere, and as such were not as attractive.
The same is seen in other cultures where wealth is a basically foreign idea. In some african tribes it has been recorded that being large is a sign of incredible beauty to that culture. Why? Because food can be scarce, and many people suffer from being malnourished. The woman being large is a sign of health, and, once again, is something that is not seen very often by the culture's male populace, and is, as such attractive.
Just as it was a rarer occasion in Roman times to see a wealthy, healthy, well off looking girl, it is rare to see a girl in modern culture that fits to the strict demands of the modeling world.
Cos that's what nature intended... mind you some times our image of ideal can be severely warped.. like with a lot of models.. you can see their ribcages... and that's gross. If I wanted a girl that I could show off to my mates, a model would be fricken ideal =D, if I wanted a girlfriend... a model might lack some of the dimensions (no not measurements) I'm looking for.. but that's just me.
Because when you are attracted to someone at first it is because of their appearence. When you first lay your eyes on a hottie you don't think to yourself 'good god, she looks smart'. Wouldn't you want to go after a 10 than a 1.
Most models aren't actually pretty. If you go on youtube and type in dove makeover, you get to see what they do with an average looking girl to make her look hot. But basically everything the other people said. Except that some guys prefer girls with more meat on them, so it all depends on the body type preference of the guy. By the way, to any guys who may read this, when you talk about how hot models are and stuff in front of girls, it even makes the pretty and confident girls that hear you saying that feel hurt.
Men will always be attracted to what they perceive as beautiful. Plus, models have always been considered the ideal, the top-of-the line and unattainable. Men always want what they don't (or sometimes can't) have.

It's what they are used to seeing. Men are visual creatures... Women are becoming more and more "virtual" in their looks as they are airbrushed and touched up to be the most beautiful that the media wishes them to be. What men have to realize is that it's all fantasy..The average woman is a size 14! So, believe in yourself, appreciate who you are and be the best you can be!
Okay, in High school, do guys seriously like the slim girls, or do they think average sizes are good too? I'm so confused because from my point of...
