From the update, it does look like he likes you. Guys don't actually need to pay attention to a girl 24/7 for that to be the case, so don't worry about then. It may simply be that he has something on his mind. The fact that you're friends is a great thing for you as you already know him. I would think that childhood memories definitely play a role in having a crush. But I don't think it's a guarantee that he does now. But I would definitely think there is a greater chance then if you two hadn't hung out when you were younger.
