I am an African American female, I have dated plenty of white men but for some reason when it comes down to some friendships they show that they are interested but don't bother to ask. I refuse to be the one to ask.
I think that some are afraid of what their parents will say- it's not really THEIR racism. I have a female friend whose parents just kicked her out of her house for "dating a black man." The black man she's "dating" is her best friend- her actual boyfriend's caucasian, but even the suspicion of dating someone of a different race is enough to get someone kicked out of a house. I think that's really quite f***ed up- given time, and the racism of our parents generation will probably get washed away. I'm sorry for your losses on account of our parents, though!
Let's face it, racism is still a common occurrence in today’s society. They may not down right be against it but there cautious. Am I making any sense?
Why refuse to ask out a guy? I'm sure you don't believe that there are male/female only roles. Should a woman raise the child, be responsible for cleaning the house, and cooking the meals? No. In today’s society we share the work load; or at least we should. I don't think this should be any different, but you will do as you will, I won't hold it against you, lol.
It might be 2009 but prejudice still exists. Maybe they could be worried about the repercussions of their families, friends, social life, etc. If you don't want to be the one to ask you might have to look elsewhere
