Good luck, seriously. They put so much nicotine in smokes that it is nearly impossible to quit for good. With so many smokers out there, just being in public does not help. The cravings and addiction to smoking is vastly underestimated by everyone. I'm not sure exactly what you can do in regards to tricks as a few here have mentioned. What I can tell you is that you must focus your mind constantly to quit and stay off of smoking forever. Having hobbies, energetic exercises, keeping yourself active and having friends who do not smoke are ideas I can give you.
I applaud you in your decision to rid yourself of this nasty habit and wish the very best for you.
Quitting smoking is entirely mind over matter and although quit smoking aids may subside cravings, they won't effectively help you quit unless your mentally prepared for it. I quit once completely cold turkey, no assistance what so ever. And I lasted for 6 months! I kept telling myself that didn't want to smoke anymore and had to really keep myself in check. The urges would spring up and drive me nuts, but I needed to keep my cool mentally and talk myself through it to get to my goal. Usually intense cravings subside after two weeks and the hardest is the first four days, after that its still a challenge but it gets a lot easier. Good Luck!
