My boyfriend has had a hard life with no parents really guiding him. When I ask him to tell me things about his life or how his day was, he says one word answers and doesn't think that he should have to tell me anything. He asks why I need to know and I always say, "Because I'm your girlfriend and I care about you," but he still doesn't get it. I don't know what else to do. It's really affected our relationship to the point where we don't have anything to talk about anymore since I know all of the small stuff about him.
Update: Please just tell me anything that you think I should do that might help the situation. This internet thing is my relationship's last hope. =(

Well, you can know all the small stuff, but there is always new things to discover about your man. I understand where he's coming from, I went through things that were very hard for me to tell him. He'll tell you when he's ready. Obviously it hits a hard note with him, just be understanding and let him know whenever he's ready you'll be there. How long have you been together? You might have to dig a little deeper also. Maybe he's told someone else ( a past girlfriend maybe? ) what happened, and that had a negative effect. Even if you do know most of the small stuff, why not make things to talk about of your own? Try new hobbies and talk about why their fun for you. Communicating is awesome in a relationship but just go easy on him for a while = ]

We have been dating for 8 months today, I was hoping that we would be a little further into getting to know each other by now when we first started dating, but he has so much resistance. He says I'm an over-analyzer and that is true. I know a lot about him and about what he is going to say before he says it just by all of these months trying to tap into his brain. And the only reason is because he doesn't talk to me so I have to try to figure it out on my own. W/b - 9 months ago

Well that's awesome you can read what he's thinking a lot. My man thinks I have esp or something I'm supposed to know everything! But what they really look fr is just to listen, and not make an analysis, because then he'll think it doesn't matter what he says or not and if he says it, you already " know". - 9 months ago
