For a girl, a 1500 calories is fine. The larger you are overall, the slightly more calories you need to add. Basically feed your body what it needs, but make it healthy and have moderate exercise.
500 calories is way less than healthy- nutritionists recommend a balanced diet of about 2,000 calories or so a day. I'm no M.D., so I can't say that you have anorexia, but perhaps you should speak with a counselor or physician about this.
Not sure if it is considered that but if you think it might be, then it probably is. 500 calories cannot sustain somebody for a long period of time and once your body has given up all its stored fat, it will start breaking down muscle and other material to live. All the while you're brain where most of your calories go will not work anywhere near up to par. You will not remember things and your school/ work life will start to fall apart. You will not even have the energy to stay awake most of the time and you will often be extremely tired.
Suggestion: if you're trying to lose weight then eat AT LEAST 800-900 calories a day with PLENTY of water. Exercise is a far better alternative to starving yourself.
I'd like to keep track of you and your eating disorder. Will you 'friend' me? I don't send friend requests because they can be misinterpreted, or a boundary violation, or an invasion.
No, because there are many other factors when being considered anorexic. If you believe that you aare "fat" and don't eat because you are scared of getting "fatter" or becoming "fat" when you are thin, that is more likely to be anorexia. Eating 500 calories a day, is very low and unhealthty. If you want to loose weight do it properly with a diet that allows you to eat of the important things needed to maintain a healthy body, which would be well more calories that you are currently eating but it would benefit your body. x
To be diagnosed with having Anorexia, you have to meet certain mental and physical criteria. I know for instance, you would have had to have lost a certain percentage of you total weight w/in a certain time frame...that is just one of MANY criteria. Your best bet is to talk to a Dr. In the meantime, try websearches to further educate yourself. Just remember to not rely on self-diagnosis...it's always best to see a Dr. if you think you have a problem.
yeah it's a slow way of killing yourself. like Tad said, 1500 is the ideal you can ask a doctor what is the RDA for calorie intake or google it eat more, it's not going to kill you if you actually eat.
I don't know if you have anorexia but you definitely have an unhealthy preoccupation with your weight. You need to see your doctor about this. 500 calories is starvation.
If you're BMI is below 20, then this could be a worrying sign. A healthy BMI is between 20-25. The lowest healthy BMI index rating is 18.5. If your BMI is lower than that, that would indicate anorexia. Please talk to family and friends too for support. Do you still have your period? If you don't, that is a bad sign. Also anorexics start growing a light fur on their arms as they lose too much body fat and can end up with osteoporosis when they're older (brittle bones that break more easily). If your menstrual cycle is gone for too long, you can become infertile.
But anorexia is about more than your weight. It's about control. A lot of girls feel they have no control over their lives so exert 110% control over their food. It can start off as a diet gone awry but it goes on to be much more than about food. You don't have anorexia nervosa you have an eating disorder not otherwise specified. To be given the label anorexic you have to have a body mass index of below 18.
An eating disorder is not somthing you want to have. It can f*** you up to the point of no return. Take it from someone with experience in this area you don't want your life to get to the point where you don't want to leave the house in fear of other people seeing what you look like, looking at pictures of food you can't eat, working out for 4 hours a day and going days without food. It may not seem like that is where you are going now, but these things get out of control very quickly because the lack of calories affect hormone stability and brain function.
If that doesn't scare you (which it didn't for me when I was eating very little) maybe this will.
A women who was overweight was eating around 400 calories a day couldn't lose any weight. About once or twice a week she would binge. And when you are eating the amount that you are it is inevitable. If you are eating over 300 calories and under 800 your body slows the metabolism this is known as starvation mode. Whenever the woman binged her body would store those calories. And as such she didn't lose any weight.
If you want to lose weight quickly eat 4 meals of about 200 calories a day. :)
Anorexia isn't just about calories, but it usually starts off with dieting, so you're not doing yourself a favor. Only taking in 500 calories a day is not the healthy way to lose weight. You need to eat right and exercise, not starve yourself.
yes, you have an eating disorder. you can't live on a diet like that forever and when you stop eating that way, you're going to gain all the weight back + 10lb because you will have perhaps PERMANENTLY wrecked your metabolism!
try using the "daily plate" feature on livestrong.com and calculate how many calories you need to live assuming you don't move at all. you'll find that in order to maintain muscle and proper body functions, you need at least 1,200 calories, and even then, you'll still probably be on track to lose 2 lb per week! and that's not counting any physical work you do. I've been trying to lose weight forever, then is started using Daily Plate and I found out that I had been starving myself and my metabolism had shut down so I wasn't losing any weight.
