Alright man if you want to test the waters and see what this girl is thinking, then start flirting with her. Stupid little witty jokes are a godsend when trying to figure out how a girl feels about you. You can tell some of the stupidest jokes/puns at times, and if a girl does really like you then she will usually automatically laugh regardless of if it's actually funny or not.
That's probably my only real test to determine what a girl is thinking during an initial approach. Take it from me though as an experienced guy, don't let on how much you like her though until you are 100% sure she likes you back.
