From past experience it was in situations where I knew I was going to not be able to see the person I was hugging, for a while. Over a summer break or something like that. Like you just don't want to let go of the person too soon.
You have to analyze this on a guy by guy basis. I know guys that hug every girl they know, an is just because they are very friendly guys; other guys just hug those that they like while other guys hug close friends.....so hugging a girl could mean nothing, or it could mean the guy feels comfortable with you.
It depends on the guy, some guys just happen to be really friendly like that, others might be more reserved and only do that when they like a girl. Personally I only do that if I'm really close with her or if I like her.

Ah. Well honestly I'm HORRIBLE at the whole dating thing, and my dates have always gone completely miserable, but hmm.. The prefect date would have to be something fun and relaxing. No dressing up or any of that crap, just like jeans and a t-shirt for attire? If the date goes well it would end with a kiss. =]
