A friend and I decided to go and get our nails done. She had not had them done in over 10 years and I had never had fake nails.

Afterward, her boyfriend said that she was turning into a "high maintenance bitch" and the guy that I am interested in did not even notice mine were done. When he finally saw them, he said they looked nice and that was that. When I asked him if he considered a woman to be high maintenance if she got her nails done, he said that I was not high maintenance and not to worry about it, but it does have me wondering. What do you all think?

This is laughably bad. Guy #2 is pretty typical here, in that he didn't notice/say anything about it for a while, and even then saw it as no big deal. Having read the comments below, guy #1 is probably way off the mark here, unless there's a great deal of other things going on.

I've occasionally used high-maintenance to describe someone who requires constant primping (whether from their boyfriend or not), but I'd usually use it to mean one who requires emotional or physical support and consideration continually. Usually these are the girls dragging their boyfriends along for their credit card and pack mule abilities, or expecting someone to stop and ask if they're all right every three seconds, then wailing about their broken nail...and all that on a daily basis. Definitely not those looking at getting their nails done once a decade.

It doesn't sound like either of those are the case. Unless he was being sarcastic, he's ridiculously off, here.

Question Asker When she told me what he said my mouth flew open. I could not believe it, and this coming from someone who uses that same mouth to say "I love you. " He was not being sarcastic about it either. Thanks for your opinion. I just wanted to hear what other more normal thinking guys had to say about this situation. :0) - 7 months ago

I may be missing the point but getting your nails done once in a while is not high maintenance.

A 'high maintenance bitch' is a person you fear you cannot afford - so it is perhaps somewhat relative.

Well, one one hand, I don't think that only getting one's nails done can be considered high maintenance. Although, I do enjoy nicely done nails on a woman.

But, I do appreciate when a woman is high maintenance, because it means she cares about the way she presents herself to the world.

I think that only someone who does nothing for their appearance would consider getting nails done as being high maintenance.

High-maintenance to me means I have to constantly do things I don't want to do in order to make her happy.

The only thing you two did was get your nails done. On your own. I don't see how that requires maintaining. :) Unless you begged for the money to pay for it all from him.

Question Asker No begging for money on either of our accounts. :0) She had her tax money and this was the only thing she did for herself. We shopped for her child and got something to eat and she got her nails done and bought two shirts. That is all she allowed herself out of her tax money. I bought an Ipod with mine and went on a shopping spree. (no children and a very good job :0) I also think that a high-maintenance person is very self-centered. The world revolves around them. - 7 months ago
Answerer Right. So I think we are both agreed, she isn't high maintenance at all. - 7 months ago

Miss,

Try this.

If a guy who wash his car weekly to keep it clean, is he a HIGH MAINTENANCE DUDE?
high maintenance is measure by attitude not $$$.

In fact your fd's boyfriend call her a "high maintenance bitch" WTF is wrong with him, does he know women spend a lot of effort, time, and money to keep her self nice and to keep his man happy. He should be grateful for that, not bitching to this poor woman.

I love a woman who take care of her self. PERIOD.

Question Asker I agree 100%. Also on that day she was shopping for shoes because he wants her to wear more open toed shoes (sandals, wedge type shoes. ) and so we went into every shoe store in the mall looking at shoes so she could buy to please him. She can spend money to buy these shoes because he wants her to, but can't get her nails done because she wants to without him making her feel bad. - 7 months ago

WTF her boyfriend is stupid. I hate when guys complain about girls being high maintenance when 9/10 the high maintenance girls are the first ones getting looked at over a plain girl. Women should take the effort to look nice and be cute. As long as she's not running up his credit card bills, he shouldn't have anything to say.

Anyways, they most likely have other problems in their relationship and he was just being petty and taking it out on her.

Question Asker I think that he is an idiot and have told her so. They do have other issues in their relationship and I think he is saying that to get rid of her. Maybe he just does not know how to covey his feelings well. IDK, but I still don't like him at all. I would think that most men would want their girls to look their best not try to make them feel bad for trying to look better than usual. - 7 months ago

*raises eyebrow* A high maintenance bitch because she got her nails done? If she's not doing something else to be considered high maintenance, then he's got issues. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting your nails done. It's not as though she's making HIM do her nails. I always thought "high-maintenance" coming from a guy meant that he had to do a lot of things to keep her happy, which doesn't sound at all the case here. I'm interested to hear how guys respond to this, but I think that her boyfriend is way out of line here.

Question Asker I agree, that is why I asked this question. I am interested in the guys reactions. She has been with him for about 2 years. I told her that she needs to not let him talk to her like that. She is considering marrying him. It will only get worse when they are married. I could see if she was getting her nails done four times a month and sitting on her butt not working and he had to pay for everything, but she is a single mother, going to school and has a job. She is far from high-maintenance. - 7 months ago
Superstrength79 Yes, I agree. She needs to think twice (or however many times it takes to get it right) before marrying him. - 7 months ago
