How do you see the personality of someones immortal soul when so much of what we are is genetics & environment? Ok I have some views on this but I wanted to get other peoples opinions too. If you have a mother who say is a great artist and you are also very good in art people will say you got that quality from your mom. And if your dad is a great athlete and you are good in sports people will say you inherited that ability from your dad. But what happens when people say wear did you get that from. You know those qualities that make us nothing like our parents at all. If you love clubbing and dancing and bonding on a deep level with your friends. And you have parents about as deep as a kiddie pool and there idea of a good time out is watching reruns of mamas family then you obviously didn't inherit your deepness and ability to have a good time from them. So is this part of your souls personality something if you came back in another body and your parents had totally different traits you would still have. Lets say you had non athletic unartistic parents who had bad tempers ok so you would be less athletic less artistic and maybe have more of a temper. But since your deepness and fondness for dancing and bonding with friends didn't come from your original parents would you still have this quality in your new body? What about when we fall in love? When we fall in love it seems to be unique to us. We very often like people our mothers would never date. Or guys like girls there dads wouldn't. And love is said to make an old person feel young again. If this is true it seems its a window into your soul and goes beyond your body. So basically what personality traits do you think we keep after death and what traits do we loose do to the fact that genetics, aches, pains and a mortal body is no longer there?
Its true our personality is affected by the environment and genetics. Lately, I have noticed that a lot of things are due to genetics. Some characteristics you may get directly from your parents but others could be from other relatives and distant ancestors. I like sitting with my legs folded on my knees (ever since I was a kid). My grandmother always says that even my Auntie used to sit that way. My molecular biology lecturer once said that everyone has the capacity to be everyone else, however, what makes you different is the genes that you express.
Well, I'm into psychology, so I believe that all aspects of our personalities are determined by genetics and environment. But to answer your question, I don't think there are specific traits that we keep. You might think things like compassion and sympathy are things that everyone has, but if you look at serial killers, for example, they generally don't have either. There's always an exception.
Then again, I guess it's possible that someone keeps being re-born without compassion or sympathy, but that would be a very sad thought, so I hope it's not true.
I dunno--I draw, write and sing well--well enough to get paid for all three--and neither of my parents draw are were strong writers. My Dad did sing though.
I think some part of it is genetic and some is environmental and the basic in born aspect of our personalities ( I do think we are born with who we are imprinted on us, just look at a new born baby--I have seen many babies come into the world with full character--and grow to be just what I felt they would base don that--it is amazing and joyous thing to watch.)
So I think, nurture vs nature isn't a contest--it is a combo of both.
Okay I think that we keep all the important ones like compassion, tolerance, love, and all that stuff. I get some of my personality traits from my mother and some from my father and they do look at me and ask themselves where did that come from. I think that if you look back at your family you'll find someone who just like you are is simlar to you. My mother always says that I act just like my grandmother from they way she thought, actted, and just lived her life. And people have also tole me I have an old soul. But the thing is you do inherit certain qualities but you also devolp your own with time.
