It seems expected that you should pretend to care about others when you don't care for them. That's what I do.

It doesn't seem very okay to me, but you're the one doing it and I doubt other people know, so it's really up to you whether you feel fine pretending or not.
But I know I personally wouldn't want someone acting like they cared about me if they didn't.
I'm confused though, do you not care about ANYONE? Or do you just pretend around acquaintances or something?

I've never had to pretend. It turns out where I live, no one openly cares for anyone and I feel like the black sheep when I openly care about everyone with very little difference between each person. But it's not okay to pretend because it's not who you are and you should just be you no matter what.

you pretend to care well that's fake my dear and nobody likes a fake person, if you don't care well then do say anything as you don't care instead of pretending to be all nice and caring , do you care about anyone? its not expected its just a nice quality to be caring but its not one of your qualties so don't pretend it is

No it is not. Just because you don't personally know that person doesn't mean you can ignore
them. The world is very, very, big. Go out into it, venture first out to your doorstep. Without all
that, what would there be? Everyone has something special to offer. The mail person brings
your mail, the garbage person picks your garbage up for you, the homeless person makes
us realize there are others who have harder situations going on in their life right now. Get the
picture? Everybody needs a helping hand sometime too. That is where communication comes
in and worldly love. You don't have to have a conversation with everyone or say anything. If the
situation is presented to where you should respond, make it short, smile and go forward with
life.
