i'm guessing a phone friend would be similiar to a pen pal - you only keep in touch via the phone, so no hanging out/spending time togehter.
I'm not quite sure what the advantages are for you.maybe for her she'll get to spend more time with her bf. Disadvantage would be not being able to hang out with ur friend in person
