Every once in a while I have trouble sleeping the night before a big day or event. I can't get my mind to shut up and let me get to sleep. I am used to functioning on very little sleep but some nights, like tonight I can't get a lick of sleep. Anyone else have this issue, what do you do?

lolz this happens to me when I know I need to be up early the next morning. My mind wonders just about everywhere but eventually I wake up and see that somewhere in between the times I got some type of rest. I didn't want to get up this morning and then to top it off storming outdoors -- that did not help none. but I suggest the typical; shut your eyes!.what may help you sleep is some soothing music in the background.

I have the exact same problem. Its like I get too anxious I cannot sleep no matter what I do. Last month I got worried because it was for several weeks before the big event. I did a bit of research. I read that its better to avoid the computer before you sleep, that light makes it hard for your body to produce the right hormones to induce sleep. Better of reading a book. Knowing me I can't stay away from my pc. But I found that taking milk or yogurt helps. So instead of taking cereal for breakfast I started taking it before sleeping.

Yep it happens to me all the time. Try Melatonin, Simply Sleep, Somanex (sp?), or Advil PM or something. Or a glass of wine like below. No red meat. Or get up and read, reading makes me tired, so it works for me. Or watch tv to maybe relax you and get your mind off of it. Sometimes your mind is so powerful that no matter what you do you just can't stop thinking about the big event. Get someone to rub/scratch your back (this always puts me to sleep).

A glass of wine and a Xanax works for me. If you can get a script for it, I highly recommend it. Benadryl is an okay substitute if you don't want to go to a doctor or anything.

Hah! Same here! I'm actually writing this response at 2:48 a.m. To be honest with you,I have no clue how we do it. Lately I've become partially nocturnal. Anyways, if you try just turning off the lights and shutting your eyes then you'll never go to sleep, so what I do is read a book until I'm so tired mentally that I just pass out. I'm not sure if this works for everyone though. Good Luck!
