Does he really like me or is it pressured onto him?

So my best friend is dating this guy. I won't use real names but lets just say their names are Ashley and Tom. So Tom has a best friend named.. Jake. So one day I found out from Ashley that Jake has a crush on me. We go and play pool a few times, all four of us. And we go out on a double date. Everything is cool. Then one day we go on a real date, alone. Everything is still cool. But then when we go somewhere with a group of people and Tom isn't there he acts like he doesn't care about me or anything. He won't talk to me or flirt with me when Tom isn't there. Then Tom shows up again and he's back to his normal self again. I kind of think that Tom is pressuring Jake to like me since them two are best friends and me and Ashley are best friends. And it would be cool if we liked each other and could go on double dates or something. Am I just simply tripping about this or is it really happening that way? Does he really like me or is it just pressured onto him? Sorry if this is a confusing question but I don't know how else to word it :( please help me in any way you can. Thanks.

Looks like you're right on the money. He does not sound genuine. Ignore him for a while and let him come after you. If he asks why you are acting this way tell him. He is either going to straighten up and fly right or you will get the truth and he'll move on. It is better to get the truth now then to live a lie later. Give me the truth any day of the week.

It seems to me like he doesn't really like you, and he is just doing it to help his friend out. Ask Ashley to talk to Tom about it. Tom will tell her the truth and then you will know. I know that sounds kind of like a bad thing to do, but Tom wouldn't lie to Ashley so you will get the truth. But maybe he is just shy about that kind of stuff.. you never really know.
