Thats not true but it does seem like it. Yes, a lot of black people came from a poor environment and a long with that comes a certain dialogue and behavior, but there are a large sum of black people who grew up not poor and talk very intelligently. No, I'm not gonna say white cause that's what a lot of people call it. It's called talking Right. No matter what race anyone is if they grew up in a nice town or a poor town, they are going to adapt to its environment, its certain dialogue and behavior.

Welcome to America babe. Fighting stereotypes has never been new. One thing you have to remember is that there are countless white people who act "ghetto", but they are not from the city so it seems different. Poor uneducated country people. Acting ignorant is not a race thing, it is a poverty and education thing. All races who have no money and come from poor schooling systems can have very "ghetto" or "trailer" characteristics.

I know a lot about this stuff because a close friend of mine is studying to be a coach and school teacher. The education system in this country sucks, because funding for a school is based on the community. So poor communities have poor funding for schools, and kids have third rate schools and teachers. Rich neighborhoods have the highest funding and have the best schools and teachers. So the poor kids get a poor education and never get access to get out of their position. Funding should be equal but it is not (it is also taboo to talk about stuff like this in politics) I have been to some of the best and worst schools in my city. I know a lot more and have a lot more to say on this stuff, with your permission I may use your question and write an article about this.

Umm when I say ghetto I talk about thugs not poor black people. So the majority of the blacks that live in NYC are ghetto... the ones that are under the age of 30, who speak poorly, act ignorant and all that. I go to a school that's 25% black 25% white and 35% Hispanic with the rest being Asian and others, I can tell you right now there's 1 out of the 19 black kids in my grade that does not act ghetto or ignorant.

From what I've experienced and seen on tv, I say a good deal of "black" girls are "ghetto." I think it has a lot to do with their environment and how their family raised them. This opinion has nothing to do with the fact that they are "black" or African-American. So just keep in mind that I'm not explaining from a racist point of view. It's just the way a majority of African-American women, or people in general, speak. For example, instead of saying the word "them" properly, they sometimes say "dem." Another thing I often hear is using double negative, "That don't do nothing to me!" instead of "That does not do anything to me." I've paid attention to how the African-Americans in my college speak. And most of the do use double negatives, poor grammar, excessive slangs, a "ghetto, hood-like" accent.

But there of course are some who speaks without accents and slangs and with proper grammar. So yes, learning to speak properly can be learned even if you grew up in a poor town/environment. The city I grew up was poor; my parents did not speak an ounce of English, and I have learned to speak fluent/unghetto =) English by the end of high school.

ALWAYSclassy What you're talking about is something called Ebonics and speaking like that doesn't make a person ghetto. Ebonics is just like any other dialect. It doesn't make you better if you speak it or not. - 10 months ago

No I don't, I think that if you speak properly, and have self-respect that you will do what you think is right. I'm white, come from a racist family, and have dated many black girls.

JenH Good for you, drivenhollow! If younger generations can avoid the ignorant beliefs their parents still carry, we'll build a better world. - 11 months ago

That's pretty ignorant. I'm black and the only time I've been to the ghetto was to get some weed for the party LOL and most of the black people I hang out with are very educated and come from good families. People who think like that are probably only around ignorant black people (what does that say about you if you are?) or they get all their information from BET. Sad, really.

No all black girls are not ghetto! And the amount of money your parents have doesn't affect how you speak because some "white girls" I know that's parents have lots of money talk really ghetto and act it too although there parents aren't. Talking ghetto is how they choose to talk and the people there exposed to!
