Small gifts that show you care about the other person are always better than cliche chocolates, flowers, etc. I'd say the same goes for getting gifts for guys. I'd say the hat is a good idea definitely.

That's good, at least your paying attention and thinking. If you guys really like each other he'll like what ever you give him. Especially if its a motel key! But if your not at that point yet a hat is a good start. But don't stop there. You have a hat and now I would think get him something else that's romantic or kinda something you both can use.
