When someone is shy, does that automatically mean they are less confident? Can someone be shy, but confident, or a not so shy person just lack confidence?

I'm shy, yet I also have loads of confidence in some areas in my life. I'm very shy talking to girls, or in big crowds. When you think of that, it doesn't make sense when I say that I used to go into high schools and give sex-ed/life-skills courses where every student tries in vain to embarrass me. It's actually quite funny turning the tables and watching them blush.

Not all shy people are less confident. I have a friend who's shy but is super confident.

Not really. You can have a sort of of confidence within yourself. I bet you have no problem being confident around your friends and family and once you know someone. Being shy isn't always a bad thing.

I had this question not to long ago and had decided to do research on it. I found that when a person is shy, it is either because they are naturally calm in spirit, or they lack confidence. So yes, most people who are shy do lack confidence. By the way, self esteem has nothing to do with it. Someone can have a very high self esteem and still lack confidence and be shy. Basically, when you start working on your confidence you will find yourself being less shy. Once I found out that it was lack of confidence, I started working on it and found myself to be much less shy and easy going around people.

Question Asker Wow, that really helps. I like myself a lot and think I am cool, but can't seem to show others that! I guess I am shy because I lack the confidence then. Thanx. - 7 months ago
