It depends what context it was in to be honest. I'd need to know more about the background of your relationship but you've got to ask yourself are you happy in the relationship? Have you been having doubts lately? Has there been strains on both of you?
If you find yourself answering yes to any of those questions then more than likely your boyfriend is feeling some sort of strain too and that might have triggered the conversation he had with your friend.

You need to talk to him. You have to be honest with him & tell him that you've been told by your friend about the conversation he had. I know it's so easy to not bring it up and keep pretending that everything is ok but it's going to tear you apart if you don't talk to him soon. He probably said it to the person online because he knew they would say it to you and he wants a response and is afraid to talk to you directly about it. Take the first step and you will have the answer soon.

Maybe, maybe not -- hard to say with so little context, and without knowing the people involved. But I would probably be concerned if I were you. Have you noticed any recent change in how he treats you? Does he seem less attentive to you? Less interested? Less loving? If so, then I would REALLY be concerned.
