Update: Maybe I didn't make it clear but I had tried to be there for him,support him,etc. His way of dealing with things is to shut down and figure it out on his own. Up until the last month we were together things were great between us

i think you were right to break up with him a guy has to have some requirements for you to stay with him
but I don't think I would go back to an ex that broke up with me for this reason.
Its this thing in the back of our minds that says, she didn't want to be together for the tough times, and now that we are living good and everything is fun and we are happy, she wants to worm her way back in.
we prefer girls to help us through whatever problems we have rather than her say ill be back when its fun again.
If a guy has sorted his life out, it also probably means he can attract other girls and isn't really thinking much about the old stuff.
