My ex broke up with me after 4 years of being together. We were pretty serious but then out of no where he said he didn't feel the same anymore and wanted to end the relationship but said he wanted to remain friends. We were still communicating for about 3 months after the break up because I thought I could handle it but then the transition from being a couple to just friends was too hard for me so I told him not to contact me for awhile until I was ready to talk to him again and not feel the pain. We didn't talk for like 2 months and not too long ago I decided to call him to open the lines of communication and because I felt we could resume the friendship again since I already gave up hope of getting back together we might as well just be friends. During the convo I told him that a friend of mine saw him with someone new but he denied having a girlfriend and said that he just likes the girl. He asked me if I still think of him everyday and I asked him why? He said because he still thinks of me everyday so now I'm confused, why would he still think of me everyday when he's already with someone else? Does he still like me? He hasn't called me and I haven't called him again ( only been a few days) even though he said I could call him whenever but I don't out of respect to the new girlfriend. Please help I don't understand.
I think most of the time guys don't really know what they want. I am in a similar situation. My ex broke up with me after 3 years together saying he didn't have feelings for me anymore. He said he wants to be best friends but I said I need time for myself to move on. He has been messaging me and stuff. I think in my case, and also in yours he misses you. You were together for a really long time and even if he has a new girlfriend he misses the comfort of the relationship you used to have. Chances are she is a rebound girl and you now coming back into his life has confused him about what he really wants. I don't know if that means he wants you back. but he probably still has some feelings for you and doesn't know what to do about them.
I think your boyfriend is confused when being in a relationship for soo long maybe he doesn't know who to change from boyfriend to pure friend maybe he is confused on the situation to. Maybe y'all should talk about it and set the record straight you shouldn't go on thinking false or having feelings hidden between you to if y'all trying to create a friend basis.
