We were in a serious relationship for 3 years. We have been broken up for almost a year now but we have never been out of each others lives. At the moment we are really close but he kinda has a girl friend. In order for us to be together in the future should I end the friendship and stop contacting him or still stay close to him? Guys what would you want a girl to do?

I suggest you stay in touch with him, stay on good terms, but also keep your distance. date other guys.

primarily, I suggest you keep some distance to protect yourself: what if his new relationship works out and they get engaged? then you'll feel like you cheated yourself and wasted your time waiting. but if you stay on good terms and in occasional contact, you'll always be in the back of his mind if he's single again.

Question Asker His girlfriend will be graduating soon so I really didn't think they were all that serious. But your advice does make a lot of since but it will be hard because he always invites me over for family functions, etc. - 10 months ago
Answerer You can still keep your distance. Simply because you're invited doesn't mean you have to go (or go every time). - 10 months ago

well I've just come out of a realtionship just b4 xmas (typical). we are still talking and we have gone over the issues and we are working to get back together in a week or so. in your case, if I was in ur situation. a three year relationship is a long time but if there's a year gap and he has a girlfriend then it doesn't look like you will be getting back together soon. but if you are still close then that's the most important thing in the world. just be there for him. if this new relationship goes tits up then be there for him. it could trigger old feelings and you could get back together. other wise, if it hurts to much to be mates while he's in a relationship. then move on ur self, or distance yourself, meet new people. talk now and then. just see what happens. that's the best I can say. good luck x
