So firstly I'm 20 she's 19. I told this girl I liked her. We'd been hanging out for coffee and lunch for a while. She said she just wasn't ready for a relationship, she wasn't mature enough. I'm pretty sure she hasn't been a relationship before, so I think she was being serious. I said that I was totally cool with it. She went away on holidays. A month passed. I sent her an email and told her that I totally respect what she said, but I'd still really like it if we could remain good friends, and keep having our coffees together (we had done that before she went on hols). She said she'd absolutely love that. The awkward thing is, I don't want her to feel uncomfortable, and feel that I'm "expecting" something out of it. Sure I still like her, but I don't want her to know that and unless she shows really obvious flirty signs I'm not going to try to make it happen). I still enjoying being friends with her!

Anyway, how often would it be acceptable that I ask her, as friends, to hang with me, so that a) she doesn't feel uncomfortable and think I'm just trying to get her to like me, but also so that b) she doesn't feel I'm like slowly pushing her out of my life. She's a good friend!

I also think that you should just be yourself, ask her if she wants to go out casually for coffee again. Just keep it as it was before, I'm pretty sure she enjoyed it too because you both met up several times to go out for lunch and coffee. She's told you she would love to as well, that's definately not a sign she's uncomfortable, so go for it and don't worry too much, the more you worry the more obvious it will be to her.

Good luck and all the best.

I would just try to act like you would with any other friend you weren't attracted to, by which I mean don't over-analyze it. If she's a good friend, keep her there. Your relationship is not going to be destroyed if you ask her out and behave like a gentleman. In fact, that sounds like it could only help the situation!

"She said she just wasn't ready for a relationship"

What this really means is "I don't want to date you, and I don't want to hurt you. Please drop the subject."

And I think you need to devote a bit more attention to your own feelings and needs, and a little less to hers.

She's afraid of commitment.
