This has been eating away at my brain for some time now and I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I'm a girl of a mixed race but my outside appearance screams asian. Now, I've had my fair share of guys that I've dated and a few of them have made this remark to me. 'You know I've never dated an asian girl before. or something like, "I've always dated white girls.'

it always made me wonder what on earth does he mean by saying such a thing? like is it a bad thing to be asian? does it mean that he's only going out with me to see how it's like to date an asian? I'm not some exotic meal that's being served up in a restaurant for you to taste test.

i was just wondering if anyone else of any race has ever encountered this.

from what I have seen in the past 10 years, men have actually gained more interest in asian women than ever before. This is because many stupid prejudices are sying out now. Whoever said to you that being asian is bad should be boiled in baby oil. I do understand your feelings though. I grew up in america as a black man in the 70's and 80's where racism was bad, many white women wouldn't even look at me sideways because of my color. Oh I can tell you some stories too graphic to talk about here. But I never looked down on my heritage, I responded to such fools with rage to judge me harshly for my deliciously golden brown skin(oops, sorry ^_^).

Never be shamed of your heritage, just dismiss the stupid folks who give you hell because if it. It's their fault for being jackasses. Personally, I'd rather date asian women than american white or even my fellow black women because asians and black have more in common than they think.

So yes, I've experience racial hell in the worst ways. It's not so bad in the past 7 years though. You are young and most likely very attractive woman so you should have plenty of good days ahead of you.

Exotic meal, now THAT is funny (^_^)

yep. I was the experimental gringo for a latin woman. It's wasn't a bad thing. It was actually cool. I got to teach them a lot about the things our family does that were new to them. I also learned a lot about latin culture as well. The first thing I learned is that I need salsa dancing lessons. They said I did ok, but I think they were being nice. I taught them how to make a traditional thanksgiving dinner. baking a turkey, and the side dishes that go with it. To me, I prefer a woman who is ethnically or culturally different. As strange as it may sound. I have never dated a white woman. Or a woman that is a natural to the United States. All my girlfriends have been europeans. (sorry, american white chicks. The european girls are awesome! nice guys don't finish last with them by any means! ) I have learned that these relationships are bittersweet. You learn a lot about your partner and they learn from you. You both are mutually exotic and sexy in each other's eyes. those are the good parts. The shitty parts are when family and friends get involved on both sides. These people bring their bias and their prejudices into the equation, and put unnecessary strain on things. A good example of this was when I punched one of my former girlfriends relatives in the face during christmas dinner because he was making very insulting remarks about me.right in front of me. He was saying things in spanish. and well he didn't know me comprende espanol poquito. That didn't bother me. Only a coward does things like that. What upset me, was that she made no effort to defend me, because she didn't want to create problems during the event. She did not realize I speak 4 languages either. So she went right along with the rest of her family playing dumb. The only person to make amends to this was her father. He apologized for the incident. But it left an impression on me. It left an impression on javiers's face.and it made me realize there are difficulties to be had when involved in these relationships. I have even encountered the " I hate white people for everything that has ever gone wrong in my entire lifetime characters", and they are as fun as chopping wood with a salad spoon in the middle of an alaskan blizzard. Sometimes I have to let things like that go. For the sake of the person who I'm dating. Because I think it's great for that shithead friend or relative to know that at the end of everyday.we still are a couple. we still care about each other, and that's all I give a damn about.so if there are any ladies out there that would love to add a white guy to your roster.shoot me a message. I'm bonus points because I'm a rare one. I've got brains and I'm red headed. just make sure your friends and relatives don't insult me in any other languages. or I may leave an impression on them that they won't forget either -j

Question Asker Yikes. that's exactly why I have a hard time bringing a guy home. the first thing that mom asks is, 'What is he?' if he's not filipino then it's kinda ok if he's part asian and part something else. if he's of a different race, like white then that's a bit harder to explain. she's more traditional and is concerned about us maintaining our culture so I understand where she's coming from. but at the same time, I don't think you can really help with whom you fall in love with. it just happens. - 4 months ago
Answerer I understand that. And no. you can't control who your in love with. I had to pretend I was a Roman Catholic for this chick as well. She had family that flew in from spain. The grandmother saw my gringo ass and her jaw dropped. That's a funny story for another day. lol. p.s. tell your momma before I come over that I can make lumpia. and ill bring your dad some san miguel. theyll love me! - j - 4 months ago
Question Asker Lol. oh gosh. we're not exactly the typical Filipino family. my mom freaks out when she sees alcohol that's not red wine or rum, which she uses for cooking or baking. - 4 months ago
Answerer Lol....see how the culture exchanges works. I now know your mom does not like any alcohol...and we are a typical irish american family...so my mom would look at you, and ask you "would you fancy a bit of the pinch?, (she calls irish whiskey the pinch)!" I have no idea why she does that. I'm willing to be your folks would not like tattoo's on your new gringo either...mmmhmmm. - j - 4 months ago
glowgirl3 I'm black and I dated a white guy before and I agree that family is the #1 issue with causing problems. I still believe that we would have been together if my dad had not automatically disliked him because he was white. Unlike your ex though, I took up and fought for him until the end. I still do to this day because we're still friends and he meant a lot to me. Very good answer! - 4 months ago

I just though you might love this poem bySuheir Hammad. It's called- Not Your Erotic, Not Your Exotic, and you can view it on you tube. I think you will be able to relate to it.

Yeah I'm Black , but I look Spanish or Cape Verdean. Its banana's to me how many guys are always telling me how they have never been with a Black , Spanish , e.t.c. It makes me wonder what the hell their problem is. I say problem because like you said it comes from nowhere and it makes you wonder what the real purpose for them being around is. I have had guys tell me they have always ''wondered'' what it was like to be with a Black girl . . Well since I've never wondered what it's like to be with another race , I left them wondering. I'm not a lab project, not for sale, hardly for rent. Regardless if it was a harmless comment on their behalf's sometimes I think people should think a little harder before they speak.
