Mum,

First, I am really sorry that this happened. I've had my share of bad relationships, and I know that if it's one you really put effort into, it hurts that much more because it didn't work out.

Second, not knowing the particulars, my first thought is that this is a guy who is just looking to sleep around, and that he'll say anything to get what he wants. Truth be told, he's weak. He has to lie, cheat and steal to get what he wants. For his own reasons he can't be honest about only wanting sex.

As a man, I don't condone nor participate in that behavior. I like to have fun, but I have no qualms being up front about my intentions. In my opinion, if you're not interested in what I'm doing, it's better we not get involved anyway.

You'll find someone who is worth your time. It may seem like it will take a lifetime, but once you do, all those things in the past will be nonsense, and everything in the present will be worth it. Not to mention, the future will be lovely. Good luck!

Personally it really depends on the guy. I think that in the end, all (99%) of guys want a relationship. People need to be more honest upfront about what it is that they want. Sounds like the guy you are talking about is pretty immature, and was just using you as a stepping stone. There should be good reasons to date someone, not just cause they are hot. An attractive non-interesting girl does nothing for me, and simply isn't enough. Think about why the two of you started dating, and what you believed he liked about you. If you like a lot of things about someone, you shouldn't be looking at who's better and making a trade. If all he cares about is looks, then you are better off with out him, and deserve a lot better.
