You should definitely be having this conversation with your friend. If they are like bffs then you should find out if she would be mad at you if you started flirting with him. Hopefully she'll appreciate the respect and honesty and you'll be clear about the situation. Until you have this conversation with your friend, stay as friends.
Well you shouldn't stop liking him just because your friend does. Nor should you make him stop liking your friend. Don't get too attached to him until he actually picks one of you or else he might attempt to try and have both of you. Does he even know you and your friend like him? Do you think he likes you?
You could use this to your advantage. Get him alone with you and discuss your feelings for him. You don't want to disown your friend just to be with this guy. You can get him the old fashion way by actually seeing if he's interested in you. Be yourself around him, try giving him more compliments but don't take it too far(Don't do something your parents wouldn't approve of) and lead him on little hints that you like him.
Remember in the end, this guy could choose you, your friend, or even someone else. You can't force a guy to like you but you can lead him in the right direction by catching his attention. Keep being friends with him, just remember to go out of your way just to show him you want to be more than friends.
Have you ever dated someone that was too good? They were almost too perfect that it actually turned you off? Can someone be too good for you? Why...
