What can I do to capture/keep a guy's interest?

Well, I already have his interest. Sort of. That much I know. I just need to know what to do for that extra push.

We haven't hung out in about 2ish weeks (it wasn’t date like, group of friends at a bar, but from there sparks flew) because of slightly conflicting schedules and the fact that I'm broke. We've texted a fair amount, all flirtatious. But we'll also go periods of time without talking. My theory is because neither of us feels they can think of something clever to say (at least that's how I feel, I feel like otherwise I'd be annoying). Anywho, I ran into him the other day, we chatted a bit, I told him we should hang out soon, he said we should once he figures out work stuff, I reiterated that he was in no rush because I was broke (probably stupid of me), and then said to give me a call.

So to me the ball’s in his court, but I certainly didn't chuck it hard enough.

We are interested in each other, but we're also close to getting to the point of no return – I mean you can only flirt over a text message so much before it becomes tedious and you start to look a little crazy. I'm not good at figuring out what to do for that extra push, which is certainly needed to revive this (a jumpstart if you will). And he already knows I’m interested so I can’t really come clean about that.

So, guys, if you were in this situation what would capture your attention, what would reel you back in from the edge, keep you interested in pursuing this a bit longer? Essentially I need some sort of gesture.

Also, because someone will say I shouldn’t worry about being broke, he’ll pay: we’re both in college - we’re both sort of broke. I think it’s rude to assume that he’ll pay and for me to not, at the very least, be able to cover my share.
