I use cute and adorable and gorgeous, it could mean I like the guy as a friend or I like him more, because all the stuff guys are flattered to hear, like 'You're hot/sexy/handsome' can make both - guy and a girl feel a little bit awkward if she says it.
When a girl says you are sweet, kind, ect. it doesn't mean they only like you as a friend. It could mean that but it could also mean that they like you.
It depends on how they say it. Receiving the compliment makes me happy and attracts me to them a bit more. If I'm interested in her it would probably make me a little more confident around her, but it could also make me feel like she only saw me as a friend. Usually I say thanks and try to keep the conversation going, maybe pay her a compliment as well if I mean it.
Well we just feel thanked and sometimes a little bit of proud of ourselves with those sort of words like sweet kind and all... but if you briefly describe your sentence with those words would sound more spiced up. for example adding more details to why you said it etc.
