if I were sitting next to or in the row in front of/behind a guy that I like in a lecture and I wanted to get his attention and maybe start conversation in a seemingly innocent way what do you think is best to do?
Innocent? That makes it difficult. You could walk out of the classroom with him and ask about a point in the lecture.
Not so innocent? Run your fingers along the back of his neck. Stop about 15 minutes before the end of the lecture, or he won't be able to stand up... :-)

You could turn around and ask him if he understands any of it? even if its an easy lecture lol or you could do the classic over used thing and drop something under his desk when he is conveniently distracted lol
